It was nostalgia

One interesting detail in the Trump indictment

On two occasions in 2021, Trump showed classified documents to others, according to the indictment. One instance, which The Washington Post has previously reported on, was a July 2021 meeting at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., when Trump showed a writer, publisher and two members of his staff what he described as a “plan of attack” that Trump claimed was prepared for him by the Defense Department and a senior military official. None of the individuals present at the meeting, which was audio-recorded, had a security clearance.

Ah. He kept the stuff as souvenirs…he wanted to relive the glory days, when important people prepared plans of attack for him – for HIM, little Donnie from Queens, wouldja believe it?

In the case of the attack plans specifically, it’s more than that, apparently.

Trump was reportedly very pissed off that General Milley was getting favorable press for saying that he stayed on because he was worried about Trump attacking Iran. According to Milley, Trump repeatedly asked about bombing Iran, and requested plans for doing so. The military drafted plans which were presented to Trump. Trump then, post-presidency, showed those plans to various book writers and others to try to prove that *Milley* was the warmonger (for presenting contingency plans that Trump had himself asked to have prepared!)

Trump is usually pretty canny about avoiding the creation of evidence that can be used against him. It’s why he famously eschews email. But it seems like his temper and ego got the better of him here so that he allowed himself to be recorded divulging classified information (and admitting it was classified) just to try to win some petty PR victory over Milley.

Wow, who could have guessed that Trump would be destroyed by a character flaw?

I mean, there are so many to choose from, how would you have narrowed it down as to which one it would be?
