Not you

Keeping women safe is not important. Surely everyone knows this by now?

When they say “gender-based” they mean cool gender, exciting gender, new gender, gender for folks. They don’t mean boring old vanilla women.

Still, the invitation did look as though they meant the old humdrum kind.

“Every Gender-based violence survivor!” it says. You’d think they could squeeze women into that “every” somehow. (Why is “gender” capitalized? Is it officially a religion now? Muslims, Christians, Genders?)

Or did it? It invites people to join them to discuss ‘inclusive’ survivor centred models of care. It’s pretty much a given nowadays that inclusive is to be understood as ‘men who advertise as women’.

In order to answer her question they would have had to stop playing games of let’s pretend and spouting cant like this:

YWCA has always been at the forefront of the women’s rights movement, empowering women since our inception over 160 years ago. … Moving forward, we will continue to work to ensure that our platform centers ALL voices. …

During pride month and year-round, it is critical for us to be allies to our trans sisters, taking on the responsibility of using our privilege and platform to promote education, camaraderie, and to rebuild trust across the spectrum of womanhood and sisterhood. Our collective liberation demands cooperation. Together, with common goals of gender equity and collective liberation, we can transition from general awareness to actions for mutual empowerment.

To assist those interested in bridging the gaps between individual women, we have come up with considerations and steps allies must take to welcome and support trans women:

Accept that every woman has the right to define her own womanhood.

There’s more, much more. Anyway, ‘Jennifer Anne’ committed a major heresy by recognising that ‘trans women’ are men. This could not be tolerated; they couldn’t even manage any kind of civilised response.

Oh my god. How the fuck does one go about “centering all voices”?? Think about it for one second, YWCA – if all voices are centered no voices are centered, because if everything is center, then there is nothing else, so there is no “center.”

And there’s that ridiculous “moving forward” again. Moving forward is a slight variation on going forward, but it’s still just as stupid, because what else would they be doing? We can’t go the other direction! We already know that when you tell us you will do stuff we know it will be in the future, because what else would it be in? “Moving forward, I will go to the store for a loaf of bread.”

Oooh! Do they get a prize? There should be a prize! Something more than just the unwanted, additional attention. and resultant mockery. Something substantial and enduring, like an ugly statuette.

They call it “Opening Doors.” But some of those doors they want to open are the doors women want to keep closed, because they’re changing in there.

Here are some ugly statue candidates. You don’t need to know Portuguese for this site:

I might suggest Laugh-In’s Flying Fickle Finger of Fate as an ugly statuette candidate. Perhaps with a different finger extended.
