At some point, hopefully in the near future, China will realize that the days of ripping off the U.S.A., and other Countries, is no longer sustainable or acceptable. Conversely, and based on the fact that more than 75 Countries have called Representatives of the United States, including the Departments of Commerce, Treasury, and the USTR, to negotiate a solution to the subjects being discussed relative to Trade, Trade Barriers, Tariffs, Currency Manipulation, and Non Monetary Tariffs, and that these Countries have not, at my strong suggestion, retaliated in any way, shape, or form against the United States, I have authorized a 90 day PAUSE, and a substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period, of 10%, also effective immediately. On The Bulwark podcast today it was mentioned that while a number of countries had indeed called (may or may not be the number he claims) but the White House hasn’t been answering.
Also, 90 day pause? We’ve seen what happened to Canada and Mexico. That boot sure hasn’t come off.
DJT allegedly wants others to come to the bargaining table, to “make a deal.”
The mercurial madman never makes an actual bargain. He just sets a new point from which to move goalposts, and squeeze even more. No oath, no Constitution, no law, no contract, no bargain, no promise is ever fixed with him. There’s no such thing as commitment from him. He regards everything through his visceral lens of egotistical want. His insatiable greed overrides every other consideration. He’s like a multicellular amoeba that simply reactively consumes whatever it finds in its environment. There’s no thought process involved, it’s a mere gobbling organism.
There really is no advantage to Beijing (because despite Xi being president for life he doesn’t do things without consulting other people, so referring to the US government as anyone but Trump is absurd) giving in in any way; Trump has offered them nothing he’s just said “don’t you dare retaliate”. This shit could very well go trade war -> real war pretty quickly, though maybe not in a “fire ze missiles” kinda way.
Trump’s people killed our cyber security apparatus, kneecapped the intelligence services, stopped investigating foreign agents, etc. China owns Elon’s biggest warehouse, oh, and by the way Trump let TikTok stay around. We know they’re in our infrastructure computer systems. So if they want to escalate without actual military commitments they’ve got a lot of levers to pull that we already know about.
Beyond the crushing of small businesses all over the US and jacking up consumer prices to the moon, there’s so many ways this can go even more terribly bad than it already has.
