LOL! Taking on a comedian rarely works out. Hugh Laurie spent decades in the British comedy trenches, and it shows.
He’s a smartyboots for sure, in all senses.
I can hear his response (in my head) in both House and Hugh accents.
My head is large and contains multitudes.
I mean, I admit–House had a formula, as many long-running and much-loved shows do. Either the formula works for you or it doesn’t. If it does, enjoy; if it doesn’t, move on.
That said, there’s a highly amusing take on House’s specific formula which I’ve found very amusing: Mouse Bites
The key difference between this parody and the complaint above is that it’s done from a place of enjoyment and knowledge (though it probably should’ve added a nod to his sexist treatment of Cameron, in order to truly cover every episode of House).
There’s a whole entire book about House and Philosophy – one in a series on Philosophy and a pop culture item. A collection of essays by a collection of philosophy wonks. It’s quite good.
I really enjoyed the Holmesian aspect, of both character and method.
I stopped watching House after Foreman deliberately pricked Cameron with a needle contaminated by the deadly disease he had.
And she forgave him.
This after he’d stolen an article idea from her.

I’m sorry if people have been having a go at you because of my tweet. Not at all the plan. I was very slightly drunk and already upset about something that had nothing to do with you. If it’s any comfort, I got it in the neck too. I’m a thin-skinned twat, apparently, even though it wasn’t my skin. I was sticking up for the writers who I adored. Obviously I shouldn’t have cited Bach/Kahlo/Moore – asking for trouble – and would have done better to go for the 10,000 blues songs written around the same 12 bar chord structure. I’ve listened to most of them and will keep doing so. Because we love what we love.
