Slogan not true shocker

Amnesty has a new slogan. To the surprise of no one, it’s utterly stupid.

That’s just not a generalizable slogan. Lots of people are not what they say they are. Just look at Trump! Look at con artists, fabulists, conceited people, depressed people, confused people, misinformed people, criminals, evangelists, quacks, advertisers, public relations experts – the list is endless. No, people are not automatically who they say they are. In many circumstances it’s a good idea to keep that in mind.

People who claim to be the sex they are not are definitely not “who they say they are”.

I used to say I was Luke Skywalker when I was a child. I’m gonna wear this shirt and then demand a lightsaber and an X-Wing spaceship.

If only that came out a month ago, Jason Arday’s life would have been saved.

Well I say I am you, and as such I have decided that you take it all back.

In the trivial sense that you can go by pretty much any name you want. What you are is a different matter entirely and about that you have no particular authority. But it’s on a tee shirt so I suppose a triviality is an acceptable substitute for anything of substance.

Who they say they are is usually not an issue. What they say they are is the problem.
