Another progressive man steps up to the plate.

[Actor Wil] Wheaton also had sharp words for the author and creator of the Harry Potter franchise, J.K. Rowling, whose views on trans people have drawn widespread criticism.

“J.K. Rowling’s a piece of shit,” says Wheaton. “She’s a hateful, disgusting, despicable human being. She gets off on the suffering of others. I don’t know what her fucking problem is. I don’t know why she can’t leave people alone. I hate her, and what I want everyone to understand is, when you watch this program, you are putting money in her pocket that she turns around and spends to hurt people.”

Wheaton adds that he thinks everyone involved in producing the new Harry Potter series “should be deeply ashamed of themselves.”

    Why do these despicable people hate J. K. Rowling so much? Now, I don’t think she’s a greater writer than Tolstoy, but she’s perfectly competent at what she does, and has been hugely successful at it. She spends a substantial part of her wealth on actually helping rape victims in a practical way. If you read the original remarks that led to the accusation of transphobia there is nothing whatever in them that a rational person could call transphobic.

    Are they just jealous of her success, or of her capacity to express her views in a more convincing way than Jolyon Maugham can manage?

    Wesley is holding onto professional success and cultural relevance by his fingernails. He is a mediocre actor with no other skills. He has no roles at all with the exception of it being kind of a joke that he has the role – look, ha ha, it’s Will Wheaton!
