Why Truth

So, Why Truth Matters is published. Jeremy received a copy of it a week ago, and he says the publishers have done a beautiful job. I was all excited, and looked forward to getting a copy too, rushing to the mailbox every day all eager for the treat, then feeling bitterly disappointed when it wasn’t there. By Wednesday I suspected and by yesterday I realized that I wasn’t getting one, so I asked the publishers if I could have one too, and they explained that they had only one and they sent it to Jeremy. They said they were sorry they couldn’t send me one too. Oh.

So I have it only on hearsay that the publishers have done a beautiful job, but I daresay it’s true. Jeremy made a page for it which includes extracts.

I think the cover (dustjacket?) is just great!

And one last good reason for thinking that truth matters, it seems to us, is all about preferences, in the largest and most humanly important sense. It’s about happiness, flourishing, enthusiasm, about what makes life worth living, why we prefer being awake to being asleep, why it’s a privilege to be human. It’s about why truth matters . Really matters. Not in a dull perfunctory dutiful sense, but in a real, lived, felt sense – “on the pulses,” as Keats put it.

    Yea, verily.

Just checked my amazon account and it hasn’t been despatched yet.

Blast! The cover pic and extracts on Jeremy’s site have really piqued my interest. It seems to be a big leap forward from your previous co-operative effort. What do you have planned next?

    Yeah, I love the cover.

    Thanks, AJ.

Chris – blast indeed. Imagine how I feel! I wanted my copy so badly I could taste it – but I don’t get one.

    So do I.

Forgot to answer your question, Chris. Jeremy is working on several hundred books, I think (I don’t actually know). I don’t have anything planned next.

(OT) G. Tingey – you just gave me a good idea what to do if I am ever confronted with an epistemic relativist in class. I teach on the ninth floor.
