An exciting breakthrough

Okay this is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in awhile. On Facebook at least. Salman Rushdie learned from a Facebook friend how to find various “interesting characters” to “add to one’s ✍ writing.” So now he gets to spark up his famously dull prose with little pointing hands ☛, umbrellas ☂, telephones, and other tiny symbols. One wag remarked

oooh! can’t wait for

Hahahahahahaha.

What? Famously dull prose? Where did that come from?

    It was a joke! Irony!

I made a similar joke on the post; fortunately he got it.

There’s just something irresistibly funny about a guy who’s known for complicated, layered, joky, magic realist etc etc fiction, juicing up his writing with little icons.

I’m no expert, but isn’t “☀☃✗✈✖☺☆” blasphemous? Would Rushdie want to tempt fate again?

    Heh!

Well if he just swaps the airplane for a brolly, it will be all right. Arguably that’s more artful anyway – the allusion to Mary Poppins, the whimsical form of flight, etc.
