I loves me some Python, but I must say one of things that most dates it is there’s a lot of sniggering at homosexuality or gender nonconformity. Like this one, or the Lumberjack Song, or this one.
Don’t get me wrong, I still find it funny. I understand the humour comes from incongruity, from things being other than you expect. Nonetheless, I still wince a bit today at something like this (especially knowing Chapman was gay).
I actually winced at that stuff at the time. It’s always sort of surprised me that they didn’t, until later, because gay rights were certainly a thing then…and as you say, Graham Chapman was right there.
