Vitamins

Well, we all have our ups and downs. Only natural. Something to do with ions, isn’t it? Or was it ozone? Or the tides? Phases of the moon? Harmonic convergence? Something like that. Or maybe all of them. Who knows.

Anyway, I’m in a pessimistic phase. Or a discouraged one. Nobody reads B&W, I should save my breath to cool my porridge, people who used to like B&W have gone off it, etc. I have a N&C in mind – I have the articles that suggested it at hand, all ready to quote from…But. The brain is on strike. It’s downed tools and is marching up and down with a sign – ‘What am I, a robot?!’ It would write something if I forced it – but I don’t seem to feel like forcing it. I seem to feel more like downing tools myself, and marching up and down along with it. Or perhaps I’ll run away and join the circus.

    Hey, *I* read B&W!

And if you do run away and join the circus, promise you’ll post lots of N&C’s about it.

Nice view from up here on this trapeze.

Thanks, Rose! Actually I know at least some people read it. Two or three. But I have no idea how many, so when I get in a discouraged mood…I think two or three is all it is.

    Time for my juggling lesson.

    What is “N&C”?

    Notes and Comments, I think.

I’m still here, OB, and still enjoying your site. I suspect you will feel/think more like yourself if you take a break. We all need to. I don’t think I’d recommend joining a circus, but seeing one might help. Or…who knows what; go some place you’ve never been before?

We can get along without you for a week or so…JUST so we know you’ll be back.

    Yes KM offers good advice.

I am sick of my doing own blog right now…the storm of stupidity in which we seem to be surrounded discourages…any action. Of course then I see/read/here something especially dumb and I am very glad that I have a blog where I can express myself.

    So hang in there, OB.

Yup, Notes & Comment. Aw, thanks, KM. I’ve just been letting a bad habit of worrying run away with me, that’s all.

And, actually, I know perfectly well people are still reading B&W. Our blog numbers go up every day. That was just some rhetoric.

Good point, DS. What would I do without a place to criticize stupidity? Awful thought!

Evasive? Evasive, how? I thought the arguments presented by Orr were quite good.

But do take a break if you need one. February is the least tolerable month, I believe. Don’t let it extinguish that firey spirit we always find here.

  8. OB Avatar

Interesting you should ask – that Orr review is the very thing I was planning to do a N&C on. Still am planning to. Brain has agreed to terms; strike over. Fiery spirit unextinguished.

    “Nobody reads B&W….”

I do. And you’re on my blogroll. So don’t run away, please.

You might think about retitling “Notes & Comment” something a bit more catchy/original, though. Also, a link in these comments for one’s blog/website address, as is customary, would be nice.

As an avid reader of N&C I shudder at the thought of its force being lessened in any way, but perhaps a better title might indeed be in order.

Since I see its role as extracting the very essence, the core, the pith of poor thinking and holding it up for view and ridicule, how about “Taking the Pith”?

    Or perhaps “Pith and Vinegar”?

I read it!!!! don’t go away – we need more of this.I have only just discovered B and W and will be recommending it to all my students. Do not despair.

Okay! Thanks for all the mash notes; I won’t run away. Not that I would have anyway. I was just having a fit of the vapours. I have them, but I get over them.

A new name, eh. Hmm – maybe you’re right.

    Spiders and Lug Wrenches?

    Moths and Screwdrivers?

    Frogs and Jackhammers?

    Sticklebacks and Waring Blenders?

Taking the Pith and Vinegar with Maybe a Dash of Tabasco?

    Taking the Biscuit?

I am one of the avid reads too. We need more sites like this .. and more people like OB.

I have to admit I have reenforced many of my beliefs by reading articles/news/notes/comments from this site. So hang in there OB. You are doing a great service to people like me…

  15. OB Avatar

That’s it! The world needs more people like me! I keep saying that, and no one ever listens…

No but seriously, thanks AAB, I will hang in, the vapours are all over. Delighted you like the articles/notes etc.

Yes, I think B&W is definitely interesting and worthwhile, even if one doesn’t agree with everything.

  17. Ben Keen Avatar

Oh, especially because one doesn’t agree with everything!
