He really is pandering to the anti-intellectual crowd when he says shit like that, so my guess is he is actually completely ignorant of the jobs held by those around him before they turned to politics. They are politicians see, so that means they are automatically designated ‘effete wanker’ and assumed to have entered politics direct from university, a designation not applied to himself despite also being a politician.
Oh and of course politics itself is not a ‘real job,’ despite the effort and hours that go into it.
