Confidence is high

DOCTOR McKinnon is off to the races.

Final TT prep before worlds!! I head to Manchester tomorrow. I’m anticipating 500m and 200m TT PBs…and a new masters women 200m TT world record.

#rainbowfoxracing #rainbowfox #worldchampion #herthighness…

He’s anticipating a new world record. How can he be so confident? Could it be because he’s anticipating it in a women’s race?

Those hashtags are exactly the kind most athletes use, right? And most philosophers, presumably.

    Especially #herthighness

For example, could you imagine the amazing Nicola Adams tagging herself #herthighness?

As of 27 May 2016 she is the reigning Olympic, World and European Games champion at flyweight, and has won the entire set of amateur championships available to her – Olympic, Commonwealth and European Games’ titles, and the World, European and European Union championships

She is also, as it happens a B; one of those letters in the alphabet soup that doesn’t seem to count any more.

In 2012, she became the first female boxer to receive an award from the Boxing Writers’ Club of Great Britain. Specifically, she was awarded the Joe Bromley Award for outstanding services to boxing. She was also the first woman ever to be invited to the club’s awards ceremony.

She was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2013 New Year Honours for services to boxing and Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2017 New Year Honours, also for services to boxing

So what do you reckon? Do you think she crows about her actually earned titles in her hashtags? I’m guessing not.

Some nice, big banners at the race welcoming Mckinnon with “BLOKE” and “CHEAT” would be a nice gesture of fairness and inclusivity. A crowd full of spectators wearing Magdalen Berns masks would be in the spirit of things, too. Racing against an empty field and zero “competitiors” would be a nice touch, but women cyclists cannot, presumably, professionally afford to stage such an action.

Curious. At the bottom of the linked tweet it says “More replies,” but when you click on it no more replies are shown. Have thet been disappeared? Deboosted?

The sponsor made an interesting choice.

I don’t know if it would convince me they know much about plumbing.

Good question about the More Replies – I got the same result.

When people of color were finally permitted to join mainstream athletics it was exciting. We knew those who excelled had to overcome a lot of adversity in order to train and succeed. They had to struggle hard for decades for their talents to be given their due. It was inspirational

MacKinnon enters the race under the mantle of having overcome privilege. He had to complain for a few years in order to be accepted as not being over-qualified. Not quite the same ‘wow’ factor.

latsot beat me to the mockery of “#herthighness”. Come on, really?

If you look at the hashtag, there’s McKinnon tagging herself here and there, but it’s mostly right-wing nut jobs making fun of Hillary Clinton.

    Skeletor – Freudian slip?

Sorry, everyone, my last comment referenced a post of Skeletor’s that disappeared when OB fixed his comment. So if it doesn’t make sense, that’s why.

It’s OK, Ikn, it’s not as though anything makes any sense any more.
