Equal time for men in feminism now?

Nope, that’s exactly what it is. “Feminism isn’t about the liberation of women, it’s about the liberation of people.” That is All Lives Matter in a different outfit. But, you know, it’s only women, so it doesn’t matter.

NO to that question. NO in thunder.

I don’t know why Linehan – an excellent comedy writer and actor, in my opinion – has such an interest in trans-nonsense*, but by God he doesn’t mince** his words, does he?

    *no pun intended.

    ** ditto.

He’s explained why. He gives a damn about women.

I presume they will be reinventing themselves as UN Womxn.

Looking at it, my comment does look rather dismissive of Linehan, but that wasn’t my intention. My apologies. It’s just rare to see a man being so vociferous in his support.

I was just answering your implicit question, not rebuking. No apologies required!

There’s an excellent interview of Linehan, on this topic, here.

Second that. I will not be erased, nor will I allow my sisters, nieces, students, friends, or fellow women of all sorts to be erased.

I am a woman who works for the equal rights for women – FEMINIST.

I would disagree with Jane Clare Jones on one item – that men can be feminists too; the defining quality being fighting “for the political, economic and social liberation of *women.*”

I’m actually with her on that… Can men advance feminist goals? Sure (and at some point they have to because they’re in charge of male hegemony)… But calling them feminists is a bit much.

Thanks to this site, I’ve started reading Jane Clare Jones. I think I’m in love.

    @Holms:

Yes, of course men can technically be feminists but there are a lot of good reasons why we shouldn’t claim the title.

One of the main reasons is all the awful men who have claimed in public to be feminists while very clearly being no such thing. Another is the scores of equally awful men who think they get to decide what feminism is.

I’d like to call myself a feminist but I’m happy enough to be told I’m not one, even if I feel that’s unfair. In fact, especially if I feel that’s unfair. It is – after all – not a problem to me if I’m told I’m not a feminist. It won’t change my life in any way. But claiming feminism while largely clueless about the history and lived experience of women could muddy the water. My life story has almost nothing to say about feminism.

In the past I’ve called myself a feminist. I’d like to think I am one but I won’t claim that any more. It took about 30 years for me to realise what women meant by “men can’t be feminists” and I finally find myself agreeing.
