Organizations that claim to campaign for or promote or defend women continue to help men take over.
“…to honour, celebrate and champion women’s voices, and to shine a spotlight on phenomenal fiction written by women…a diverse breadth of women’s voices…the voices of women and the experience of being a woman…the word ‘woman’ equates to a cis woman, a transgender woman” which is to say A MAN.
We’re here to celebrate women, we’re here because literary prizes so consistently overlooked women, we set out (as the Orange Prize) to redress that overlooking of women, and now we’re dynamiting the whole idea by including MEN in a prize we set up for WOMEN.

Yes, it talks about the experience of living as a woman. This is an experience men don’t have. Transwomen don’t have.
Maybe the TRAs should set up a literary prize for trans? Oh, wait, that isn’t really the purpose, is it?
Why do I suspect they will scan the content of the novels carefully to assure they actually award it to a man? Oh, I’m sure they won’t do that purposefully, but bias is bias.
Oh I think they might very well deliberately award it to a trans woman. There seems to be no limit to how ludicrous this can get.
Yeah. I did mean the “won’t do it purposefully” as sarcasm, but I suppose that isn’t evident.
The prize is open to all women, but also non-women, therefore it’s not a women’s prize. The only people they are being prejudicial towards is actual women. That’s some next level stupidity.
I have submitted to this prize in the past, but probably not much reason to do so this year. Seems as a woman I am unlikely to receive the prize (but when someone starts a prize for otter literary works, I’ll definitely be in).
Well, at least there was some good otter news recently.

It would be a lot more reassuring if ‘legally defined’ actually meant anything. At present it only seems to mean ‘officially name-changed’ or ‘currently claiming to be.’
