A completely valid choice
San Francisco has a place called the Gender Confirmation Center, where people can go to get bits of themselves cut off or reshaped so as to Confirm their Genders. Another way of looking at it is that it’s a group practice of three plastic surgeons who specialize in slicing or shaping people for cosmetic gender purposes.
One of their menu items is Top Surgery with No Nipple Grafts.
We’ve seen an increase of patients at The Gender Confirmation Center who want to get top surgery but do not want to keep their nipples. We’ve developed this content to raise awareness that this is a viable option and to communicate that choosing no nipples is a completely valid choice.
And of course plastic surgeons are the very people we want telling us which bits it’s completely valid to choose to cut off.
In short, Nipple Grafts is a term for nipples that have been removed from your chest during top surgery and then re-attached to the chest in the desired location. The areolas are usually cut down to about the size of a nickel (22 mm being the typical diameter of a cisgender male’s areolas) and then the nipples are shaved down so that they don’t project as much. The process of nipple reduction is explained in this animated video.

The only reasonable long term outcome of these mutilations is grief and regret, a lifetime of it. It’s deeply saddening and horrifying at the same time. :(
So, self harm such as cutting and burning is considered a mental disorder caused by distress, one which indicates that these people need psychiatric help, yet when it’s done surgically on an even bigger scale it’s accepted, even promoted? The ghoulish wretches that profit from, go along with, or encourage any of this belong behind bars (or worse IMO).
I’m just riffing on an exchange I saw on Facebook here, but…
What if women who believe that they were born in the wrong body each pair up with a man who thinks he was born in the wrong body, and switch brains? Surely, those plastic surgeons who are so skilled that they can make simulacra of genitalia ‘indistinguishable from those of cis-people’ (to paraphrase) are perfectly capable! And the IOC would no longer be in a bind, because they could just tell male athletes who wish to compete in the women’s division “Go ahead, as soon as you recover from your sex-change surgery!”
Imagine the glee of men claiming to be women! Instead of multiple surgeries and cross-sex hormones, which only give a very slight semblance of womanhood, they could have a genuine female body!
It would streamline the process of weeding out ‘true trans’ from ‘fakers’, too. Just ask when they want the brain transplant – if they turn it down, they aren’t trans!
Like Trumpism, Qanon and the Stop the Steal movement, this “gender confirmation” shit is sure to enter the revised edition of Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds.
Is chopping off both my arms and both my legs also a “valid” choice? I’ll need the Gender Confirmation Center to tell me! Otherwise, I’m too stupid to know myself (but certainly I know my inner self better than anyone!).

Indeed there are. I think we were just talking about the resemblance between pro ana claims and trans claims – yes, in the discussion of that excellent post about universal experiences and the cultural interpretations we apply to them.
