It’s always interesting to see the police getting the law completely wrong.
See, the problem with that is, it’s not a crime. If it’s not a crime it can’t be a hate crime, because as many people are patiently pointing out TO THE POLICE, there is no stand-alone hate crime: there has to be a crime first, which can then have the category “hate crime” added. It’s not a crime to get someone’s name wrong, even on purpose. It may be rude, but it’s not a crime.
Meanwhile, as I keep saying, rape is almost never prosecuted.

When I expressed confusion as to why the police (generally not the most forward-thinking of institutions) would be so considerate of the feelings and “rights” of transwomen, you said it was the whole “Bro’s before ho’s” mentality.
That’s entirely possible. But wouldn’t it at least be a possibility that “Bro’s who want to f’n be ho’s” would enrage a socially-conservative [the majority I dare say] police officer?
It’s not as if white-skinned cops demonstrate a “B b4 H” mentality when a male person of colour assaults a white woman.
But perhaps the AGP fetish is more widespread than previously known? And a lot of these cops see something of themselves in a lot of these transwomen?
It just seems to be a form of institutional capture that is remarkable for how far down the ranks the enthusiasm for it goes. Imagine the handicapped somehow obtained a great deal of social cachet and political capital and orders came down from the national government to all police services that discrimination against the handicapped would be met with zero tolerance. Would cops on the beat be as fired-up about that policy as they are with responding to reports of “misgendering” or innocuous gender-critical stickering?
Sadly, more and more, I’m coming to agree with you that there’s a war on women. A war on women for its own sake. For instance, I used to think that most anti-abortion sentiment was based on some sort of concern for the unborn. But the absolute contempt of legislators for the rights, and health of both pregnant women and their luggage, and the sadism they display against them, … it is cruelty for cruelty’s sake.
And this harrassment of GC feminist women is all part and parcel of that.

Like many other areas of society I suspect that the Police are very aware of their poor record on things like racism and homophobia and have decided to get fully behind this “movement” as a way of repairing their reputation. I believe that many of the rank and file officers are enthusiastically going along with it because they are raging misogynists.

Don’t know how to quote your first sentence but to me that’s one of the scarier parts of this movement. It reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Mr Burns looses all his money and Liza helps him get into recycling in the hopes it would make him a better person. He eventually sets up a plant that “recycles” live sea animals into slurry and when Liza realises what he’s done she hits him with the line:
“You haven’t changed at all. You’re still evil, and when you’re trying to be good, you’re even more evil!”
Most of our institutions have pretty dismal records of dealing with sexism, or racism, or homophobia. Our elites just can’t seem to pick a winner. This is their attempt to be ahead of the curve, and all it does is show how indulgent and detached from reality their attitudes really are. The foot soldiers just like bullying women though.
And just who is going to KNOW the ‘previous male name?’ The ‘problem’ is social and personal. You might as well call the cops because Featherstonehaugh passed the port to his left.
All those times I’ve been called Bruce because ha ha funny sketch about Australia… was I being crimed on? Hate crimed?
