God I despise Joe Manchin. Can we just fold West Virginia back into Virginia please?
The Democratic legislation to enshrine abortion rights into federal law looks set to fail in the Senate this afternoon by a vote of 49-51, after the West Virginia senator Joe Manchin said he would cross the aisle and join Republicans to vote no.
Easy for him. Not his body taken over. It would fail anyway because filibuster blah blah blah, but Manchin is plant food.
Manchin, a moderate Democrat, has been speaking with reporters in the Senate hallway, saying he believes the legislation as presented “goes too far”.
Gotta keep those women down some.
I question the identification of Manchin as a moderate Democrat. Joe Biden is a moderate Democrat. Manchin is a DINO – a moderate Republican. But he identifies as a Democrat.
Well with a spread like that ostensibly pro-choice Susan Collins didn’t vote for it either whereas Manchin represents deep red WV (whose occupants have apparently forgotten who murdered their ancestors in the Mine Wars). Would expect nothing less from Manchin…
I came to say what iknklast has already expressed. Manchin (and Sinema) are not moderate Democrats. They’re conservative Democrats, or possibly liberal Republicans.
Please don’t wish WV on us. We’ve managed to become a purple state, but with an increasingly Trumpian gop. Taking WV back would just push us over the edge.

The only benefit that the Democrats get from him is that they have the slim majority. Otherwise he is indistinguishable from his Republican friends. I think he probably enjoys the power this gives him.
But seriously, if he wasn’t the senator for WV it would be Republican.
SInema is one of those who potentially could be replaced by a Democrat, if someone as popular as Mark Kelly were to join the race there.
