Not fair use

Ew.

It’s a mural on a wall in Bergen – my city’s sister city, as it happens.

It’s revolting.

    How utterly despicable.

She’s a public domain character at this point, often used in absurdist jokes. Some uses are more tasteless than others of course.

‘ public domain figure’ — to be used and abused as one likes. I very much dislike our frivolous era.

It’s hardly new, it’s just that meme construction is much, much faster than it used to be.

Just don’t watch Historical Roasts episode 3, featuring Gilbert Gottfried as Hitler is all I’m saying.

This isn’t intended as a joke. It’s political commentary. The image of a child who was murdered for being Jewish is being used to support an antisemitic ideology.

“more tasteless than others” is quite the minimization.

    I’m missing some context.

It merely looks weird to me.

I don’t see how it is being used to support antisemitic ideology

Well just for a start it changes the subject, and since the subject is that she died of typhus fever at Auschwitz where she had been imprisoned because she was a Jew, I think changing it to make a radically different point is anti-Semitic.

Ah. She’s wearing a Palestinian scarf. I had no idea. Thanks, twiliter, for the article link.

Oh, sorry – I didn’t think to explain the kiffiyeh. Shout out to all the Columbia students who modeled it so tastefully. Without them I wouldn’t have recognized it either.
