Pick your battles

Oh goody, another schism. You’re far right no you’re far right.

I’m definitely not far right nor am I a fan of Tommy Robinson, but I’m not going to pretend that Islam is good for women and/or that Islam can’t be criticized lest we encourage Tommy Robinson.

I’ve been to this rodeo before. I heard a whole lot about it when Does God Hate Women? was published. I even got to defend it in a BBC Radio 4 panel discussion this one time. No, Muslims should not be persecuted; yes, Islam is hostile to women. Both those claims can be true or reasonable or fair or all those.

Which end of the egg do you crack open?

Sarah Ditum (spelling?) had mentioned recently that Graham Lineham and probably Posie Parker had been showing at least halfhearted support for the rioters; I imagine this is in response to that, right?

Even if you don’t like Mohammedans (I certainly don’t) you shouldn’t be saying the rioters have a point. Not lecturing here or anything, just saying a responsible person shouldn’t be finding any common feeling with people attacking mosques or hotels.

No of course you shouldn’t be saying the rioters have a point, which is what I meant by saying I’m not a fan of Tommy Robinson, but drawing new lines in the sand isn’t always a good thing either.

Can you show us any examples of Glinner “showing at least halfhearted support for the rioters”? I’m looking but haven’t found anything yet. Just saying someone else said it is just that.

Can you show us where Sarah said that because I sure as hell can’t find it.

    @#4

I think it may have been on the Blocked and Reported podcast.

Ever since Ophelia led us out of the Gender Swamp and back here, I, and I am sure many others, have had to choke down our opposition to some points of view to create allies in the bigger fight.

I detest Posie Parker’s views on abortion, but I stand 100% with her when she speaks for women’s rights to women’s spaces, sports, and awards.

I loved “The IT Crowd”, but something about Glinner doesn’t appeal to me. I can’t put my finger on it, but he is a strong fighter for women’s rights, so that’s the bit that matters.

Sall Grover is an incredibly brave and strong woman, fighting not just a deluded male, but also a government apparatus that seems weighted against women. I was appalled when I saw she was to appear on a panel show run by people who are trying to destroy all that is good in my country. But they are the only media helping her spread her message, so what else could she do?

I am a life long Socialist, who is tending more Communist as I see the destruction wrought by 40 years of NeoConCrapenomics, but have had to stand shoulder to shoulder with politicians who ushered in those policies because they are the only ones who are speaking up for my granddaughter’s rights to be free of males in their sports, awards, change rooms, etc.

I am saddened and disgusted by the way those who inherited the hard work of generations of Leftists have allowed themselves to be captured so easily and are prepared to throw away 100 years of progress.

Ah, I haven’t listened to B&R in ages. Should do so.

These riots, like the BLM riots, are bad. Period.

People have grievances. Some of those grievances are legitimate. Saying so isn’t the same as saying it’s OK to riot.

Wait. Are we saying I’m saying the rioters have a point?

I’m not saying the rioters have a point.

No. I was quoting Blood Knight at #1. Probably should have made that explicit.

Well I certainly don’t think you are… Glinner and PP though, possibly. That’s what Ditum was saying.

I think Glinner has a bit of a blind spot regarding Musk, I think like me. he loves the whole SpaceX resuable rocket thing, he probably sees electric cars as a good thing and as I used to do, associates Musk closely with those things. But it turns out Musk is an arse, maybe on the spectrum, but that doesn’t absolve one from being an arsehole.

Glinner uses the phrase ‘NPCs’ a lot and so does Musk, I don’t know where it originated, but I’m getting a vibe that Glinner is a bit of a gamer/nerd like me. Only I’ve had to acknowledge that Musk is just. an. arse!

Well he also used the term “libs” to (presumably) refer to Wokies in that tweet Ophelia shared; in the US I’d consider that an exclusively right wing term but I dunno in the UK context.

As for the NPC meme, it refers to the old CRPG phenomen where you talk to NPCs and they just repeat a single line over and over every time they interact with them. Very 4channy.

Now, I personally don’t believe in the “mask off” concept; Elon Musk was never great (neither am I, another autist), but his poor relationship with his defective child is definitely his supervillain origin story. He got worse via positive interactions with people more right wing than him. It’s a common arc for people who become obsessed with the “Woke mind virus”, though not inevitable. Artymorty has written some good stuff on this IIRC.

A number of people were initially elated about Twitter (I refuse to call it X) unbanning a variety of accounts, including GC voices. I know that I’ve read people in the last few months saying that Twitter is the only broad platform that provides free speech. Glinner, if I recall, was one of the unbanned, and was initially thrilled. I don’t know if he currently feels the same way.

Kathleen Stock had an excellent article on UnHerd recently on the topic:

Musk’s two-tier vision of free speech: He is as self-interested as the rest of us
