Thousands have gathered in Parliament Square for a rally against US President Donald Trump’s second state visit.
Now that you mention it, why is he getting this grotesque lavish welcome? He’s been in office less than a year, and he’s horrible, so why the mad rush to throw him a very expensive party? Why the decision to give him anything at all other than a cold disdainful glare?
In the midst of the crowds – which started gathering near BBC Broadcasting House – people told the BBC why they were there, racking up a long list of grievances against the US president. They said they found him “despicable” and wanted to send a message that he was not welcome.
Reverend Poppy Hughes, who was asked about those who said vicars should be apolitical, replied: “Jesus preached peace and compassion and that’s why I’m here”.
See that’s what I keep saying – it’s not just political, it’s that he’s a terrible human being. He ticks almost every bad box and not one good box. It’s not just that he’s greedy and ruthless and aggressive, it’s that he’s self-centered and rude and mean and ignorant and a bully.
As the crowd moved, it paused outside Downing Street, which was being protected by officers from Wales and Northern Ireland.
Some of the demonstrators carried signs including “Duck Off Donald” and “Feed him to the Corgis”.
With some fava beans and a nice Chianti.

How easily the man of privilege can make himself appealing to the “Lumpenproletariat” by bad-mouthing the “Highbrows”, the “Intellectuals” or the “Academics”.
That’s odd, because he frequently shouts about how very “smart” he is. His uncle was the emperor of MIT you know, so naturally Trump is that smart plus even smarter.
I remember during the Bush administration, his followers both pointed out how he wasn’t one of the elite, then if someone suggested John Kerry was smart, they pointed out that Bush was smarter, because he went to IVY LEAGUE and Kerry only went to Boston College.
They want to have their cake and eat it too.
The idea that Bush isn’t one of the elite is hilarious. He’s certainly far more of the elite than Trump is or ever will be.
Why’s he getting a second state visit?
Honestly, I think it’s pretty good politics. He *loves* this kind of stuff. He responds well to having his ego massaged – witness the tariffs thing, for example. And look at the way he responded when Starmer gave him the actual letter of invitation a few months ago. The UK still needs the US; a state visit is an all-things-considered quick-and-easy way to make the Orange Man look at the UK more favourably.
Put another way, he thinks it’s about him – which it is, in a way. Just not in the way he believes.
Yes I guess it is. It’s just that…oh well it’s obvious what it is. Everything with him is so damn obvious.

And he did his best to hide that through strategic use of dumbness. Oh, yes, I think he was genuinely dumb, but I do think he learned how to make best use of that politically.
