Pick just one

Trump is pestering the UN.

He says “Now after ending all of these wars and also earlier negotiating the Abraham accords which is a very [long pause] big thing for which our country received no credit, never receives credit, everyone says that I should get the Nobel Peace Prize”

Well which is it? The US never receives credit, or everyone says Trump should get the Nobel Peace Prize?

It can’t be both.

Especially not in the same sentence.

“Everyone says” = the voices in his head

Has anyone suggested to the Nobel Prize Committee something along the lines of “Arm Ukraine, win the war, get a prize”?

It’d be corrupt, I know, but is there any conceivable way that would work?

Well, they could send a very large man to ask on their behalf – but he’d have to be able to say “Sir” and produce tears in his eyes.

It’s the politics of resentment, a lifetime of believing that he deserves what he wants without having to work for it. Any effort is considered accomplishment, even if it’s not succesful. Like his Chelsea trophy, and the Purple Heart he wanted. This Nobel Peace Prize fixation is just one more want that will never be satisfied, he is the real life Veruca Salt.

Aside to Donald: Those who say at “funeral” rallies that they hate their enemies do not get consideration for Nobel Peace Prizes.

Yeah boy if anyone ever had no right to the politics of resentment it’s Donald Fucking Trump.

    Trump’s latest comments, though…

President Trump added new confusion to his approach to the war between Russia and Ukraine by suggesting on Tuesday that he now believed Ukraine could, with military support from NATO and the United States, regain all of the territory it has lost to Russia and restore its prewar borders.

Europeans at the United Nations General Assembly in New York were puzzling over the meaning of Mr. Trump’s head-spinning statement in a social media post, which added to his frequently shifting opinions about Russia, Ukraine and the fate of the three-and-a-half-year war. The fear among many American allies is that Mr. Trump is setting the stage to begin restoring full diplomatic and trade relations with Moscow, which has long been one of his goals and that of President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia.

After months of suggesting that Ukraine would need to give up some of its territory to secure a peace deal with Russia, Mr. Trump suddenly reversed course in his post, writing that Kyiv was in a position to “fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form.” Mr. Trump’s statement came after, he said, he had gotten a chance to “fully understand” the military and economic situation. It also came hours after he had criticized Russia for its inability to defeat its smaller neighbor on the battlefield.

Let’s see if he walks them back by tomorrow.

I think it’s a big deal to him because Obama has one.

Moreover if you consider when it happened, Obama pretty much got his Nobel Peace Prize for simply not being George W. Bush rather than for doing anything specific to promote peace. To some extent, that was the Nobel Institute saying to the US, “Look, we know what you did, and you know what you did, but we’re going to make a friendly overture on the good-faith assumption that you’re sorry you did it and you’ll never do it again.”

    And…yeah.

If Trump received one, what would that say about the Nobel Peace Prize? I attended a lecture last night given by a Nobel Peace Prize winner (Lech Wałęsa), and Trump isn’t even in the same league.

I have long been of the opinion that the Nobel Peace Prize should be a) abolished or b) only ever awarded posthumously (when the recipient no longer has a chance to screw up too badly). But if fucking Trump gets it, I hope no half-way decent person or organization will ever accept it again. I also hope whatever worthy recipients are out there will have the integrity to return theirs, since this would make the whole Prize, not just meaningless, but an active insult.

He never will though will he?

Oh, and anyone who thinks Trump is going to start acting like a real peacemaker if he gets the damn prize is delusional. As always he wants all the honors and none of the actual work.

I sure hope not, but after everything that’s happened I would rather not make any sweeping statements about what can or cannot happen (except that it’s going to be bad). The cringey self-abasement of European leaders who go out of their way to flatter the ego of the orange sewage fountain has made me loathe and despise them almost as much as I loathe and despise him.

    “I hate my enemies.”

    Yep, very peaceful.

    Entitled asshole.

Sorry, “opponents” is what he said. Doesn’t change the sentiment.

@9 you may recall that Tom Lehrer said he gave up writing comedy songs when Henry Kissinger got the Nobel Peace Prize – he couldn’t write anything more absurd than that.
