Willy hasn’t gone quite far enough in his understanding and explanation of the problem. First of all, there’s no all-Black basketball league. Second of all, there is a professional basketball league for people in wheelchairs, and they do not allow people who just fancy they’re disabled to participate, not in fact and not in theory. Players are thoroughly vetted and categorized and must prove their disabilities.

Classification is the cornerstone of the Paralympic Movement. It is a unique and essential feature of Para sport that provides the fundamental structure for credible, competitive, fair, and meaningful high-performance competition for Athletes with a disability all over the world.
Without that, you might enter into a situation in which … let’s call them “trans-disabled” people might enter because they think they’d have an advantage. And then you might have a secondary phenomenon of even faker “trans-disabled” people just saying they identify as disabled for the nonce, with the goal of … establishing a classification system similar the one they actually, currently use.
The classification system the big Turkish fellow, er, excuse me, laydeee, seems to want the WNBA to adopt would be so much simpler: just be actually a woman.

There actually was an enormous scandal when a team fielded many athletes who were only pretending to be disabled. Once discovered, their medals were stripped and the competition didn’t run for many years while they refined the assessment process for determining athlete eligibility.
