Trump calls out mediocrity

This morning:

The Times has background:

Mr. Trump had refrained from remarking on the show on Twitter for many months. But on Friday morning, Mr. Baldwin’s remarks were highlighted on Fox News and Mr. Trump weighed in soon after.

They share the tweet.

(An earlier version of the post in which Mr. Trump misspelled Mr. Baldwin’s name as “Alex” was deleted.)

It also spelled “dying” “dieing.”

So anyway, how mediocre has Alec Baldwin’s career been? Let’s ask Wikipedia.

Baldwin has won three Emmy Awards,[24] two Golden Globe awards and seven Screen Actors Guild Awards for his role. He received his second Emmy nomination for Best Actor in a Television Comedy or Musical as Jack Donaghy in 2008, marking his seventh Primetime Emmy nomination and first win. He won again in 2009.[25]

Baldwin was nominated for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and the Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance in the 2003 gambling drama The Cooler.[7]

On May 12, 2010, Baldwin gave a commencement address at New York University and was awarded a Doctor of Fine Arts degree, honoris causa.[52]

It doesn’t seem all that mediocre.

Also, nobody is forced to watch Saturday Night Live. Trump really should learn something about the laws of this country.

All you need to know about Darrell Hammond’s impression of Trump is that Trump liked it.

Trump calls out mediocrity? His type is always jealous of their betters, and the mediocre are definitely his betters.

Trump must be jealous of everyone.

His spelling is lousy but I’m genuinely impressed* that Trump knows that impersonation is the correct word when so many use impression.

*a sign of how low the bar is set, I suppose.

    AoS,

In the immortal words of Trump’s lawyer, “says who?”

Merriam Webster’s definition of “impression” includes:

    7

: an imitation or representation of salient features in an artistic or theatrical medium; especially : an imitation in caricature of a noted personality as a form of theatrical entertainment

    Oxford has:

    2

An imitation of a person or thing, done to entertain.

‘he did an impression of Shirley Bassey’

The only sources that some quick Googling showed claiming “impression” is “wrong” in this context were blogs or forums, not by anyone who could be said to be authoritative.

I vaguely recall some comics contending that “impression” is more accurate, because “impersonation” should be reserved for attempts to genuinely mimic someone, whereas a more stylistic, exaggerated-for-comedic-effect performance should be called “impression.” But I would say that either word is ok.

One of the tweets Fox & Friends aired:

“Now he knows how the rest of feel when the does it”

Ladies and gentlemen, behold a Trump supporter.
