I guess it depends on how you’re using “in line” – I take it Joy Reid means in the sense that there is one prez and then there are people in line, and she is the second of those.
In fairness to tRump, he was probably unaware of the protocol involving security, and was not deliberately trying to endanger Pelosi and her entourage. In other words, he is more ignorant than malignant.
That is not a reassuring thought, is it?
Not very, plus, his refusal / failure to be aware of such things is entirely his own doing and inexcusable. It’s his job and his duty to be aware of them.
Also, sorry to quibble but, he’s every bit as malignant as he is ignorant. He’s both, all the way up to the top of the bottle.
Barbara Baker, I have to disagree with your assessment. He must have been made aware of the necessity for secrecy when visiting war zones before his own recent jaunt, hence his own lack of tweets beforehand announcing it. It didn’t stop the moron from breaching security protocol by posting those uncensored photographs revealing the identities of members of a covert Navy Seal team along with their location, but I guess that nobody thought it necessary to tell him not to, and for Trump anything not expressly forbidden is allowed (as is anything expressly forbidden that he wants to do regardless).
I suspect that once he decided to scupper Pelosi’s own trip his decision to reveal her intended destination was a malicious means of ensuring that her intention to go was made public, thus jeopardising her chances to do so in the near future because every terrorist group will be watching her movements very carefully. There was no need for Trump to include even the final destination in that letter, let alone the two stops en-route. He knew why Pelosi was going, he could -and should – have merely told her that her trip overseas was cancelled; the details were a deliberate, malevolent inclusion by a butt-hurt baby getting his own back because a woman told him ‘No’.
I am struck that this letter was the best Trump’s aides could come up with. The letter strikes the tone of a petulant 10 year old. All that’s missing is “Nyah nyah” ( neener in US English). They obviously copied Pelosi’s letter: I imagine Sanders, Conway and who else? Kushner? Miller? drafting it all together. “Yeah! This will show her!”
It’s embarrassing in it’s immaturity. I can’t even get to the lack of political propriety and the breach of security protocol, I can’t get past the childishness of it all.
I stand corrected. He is malignant AND ignorant. Probably the basest motives imaginable should be ascribed to all of his actions.
It’s certainly remarkably difficult to find any examples that pull the other way. I read in some news outlet that he appeared shocked by the devastation of Paradise, California when he went there. Other than that…I got nothin’.
