    It’s a shocking insult to the late Peter Norman to eliminate him from the photo and replace him with that superficial over-privileged nonentity.

    Just kidding – but let’s remember he was sympathetic to the protest by his two rivals, supported what they did, and wore an Olympic Project for Human Rights badge as his sign of solidarity with them. He suffered for his principles – he was ignored and derided when he returned home to Australia. He never ran for Australia again, despite his very creditable results.

    Zackoz, his support went beyond wearing the pin, as well. Notice that Tommie Smith and John Carlos are each lifting a different arm, and (in the undoctored photo), Peter Norman isn’t wearing any gloves at all–that’s because Smith and Carlos had lost theirs, and he actually gave them his gloves to use for their salute.
