Where is that piano?

Another press briefing campaign rally, perhaps the weirdest yet.

At this stage of the rally, the early stage, he comes across as drunk, exhausted, sick, something – gabbling, slurring, and seeming to talk through a gallon or two of his own drool.

“…when thee brunt of it comes, which is coming quickly, you see it, you see it as sure as you can see it” [rising hand gesture to illustrate “brunt”]

Lots of drunk – slurring – weaving – struggling in this one:

No, people with expertise in researching and testing new medications are going to have to do that.

That one is particularly disgusting. He goes on and on about who stroked his ego enough and who didn’t, as if that were the whole point. It makes me wish I could bash his head in myself.

Yes, “inappropriate” to go public to save the lives of his crew.

It’s true about the bizarre hushed tones. He’s doing the creepy-daddy whisper at this point, and it makes one want to run for the hills.

Here is Trump giving potentially deadly medical advice in bizarre, hushed tones

Maybe Trump doesn’t want Dr. Faici to hear him and contradict everything he’s saying. Again.

Makes me want to run for the toilet.

The Transylvanians in their time were lucky. They only had to put up with President Vlad Dracula.

Oh, gross. Also, what is he on about? When you’re on a ventilator and it’s working beautifully and you know the answer and I know the answer and garblegarble…. it’s just word salad. Every time I see or hear him, I remember that it’s not actually possible to satirize him. There’s nothing you can imagine him saying that would be more grotesque or stupid or evil than any of the things he says every time he opens his mouth.

I think that particular garblegarble about the ventilators and you know and I know was because Fauci had just been telling him that the survival rate of people on ventilators is not high. “I don’t like the answer, you don’t like the answer” – in other words he’d asked and Fauci had answered and it came as a surprise and shock to him. He was being coy about it because………..I have no idea why. Because his brain is as rotten as last year’s fish.

I was reading some updates from NPR and elsewhere, and it astounded me that they could take this monster seriously. So they can pull a rephrased sentence or two out of his incoherent blabbering, so what? How can they stoop to covering for his utter incompetence? How can they dare to present anything he says in a way that implies that he cares about anyone, that he knows something about what’s going on?

It’s a kind of déformation professionnelle, I think. The Profession requires them to sound like sober adults at all times and that in turn requires them to use sober adult language about heads of state so they just can’t report on Trump accurately because the truth is so vulgar and childish and clownish.

Maggie Haberman tweeted this account from the press conference:

“What do you have to lose?” the President asks of trying chloroquinines as a COVID treatment, stepping in on a question that had been directed to Fauci, who has a different view.

What a cowardly, dangerous bit of sanitizing. The actual expert’s opinion — which is that experimenting on your own with an untested and dangerous treatment is crazy dangerous — is shunted off as a mere “different view” while the President’s clear “what do you have to lose?” view is given prominence.

Some more idiots may die because of this, but what’s a few human lives as compared to Maggie Haberman remaining in Trump’s good graces? Think of all the valuable stories we would miss about what “sources close to Jared and Ivanka” (sources whose names rhyme with Hared and Mivanka) “really:” think.

Screechy, I’ve been noticing that for some time. Reading articles that talk about the partisanship of the COVID response can’t help but point out that both sides are partisan. The right believes Trump, and the left is as rigidly tied to their determination that we need to quarantine, etc. This by people who probably agree with the dire state, who are not on the right, but who will not under any circumstances point out that the “partisans” on the left just happen to agree with the medical experts, who are presenting evidence to support their position, and are tired of counting deaths. They would rather stop the death toll from rising, while the right is blindly following a pattern established by the idiot president they elected. And I am sure my reference to him as an idiot president will be evidence of my partisanship, in spite of the fact that there is ample evidence backing up my assessment. We are so mired in both-sidesism that we can’t parse reality anymore. It’s all just someone’s opinion.

I am glad my dad is taking this seriously, in spite of being a Trumpista. (yes, I know, but, well, he’s my dad, okay?)

I see, thanks for clearing that up (as much as anyone can clear up what Trump says). If I’d watched all the clips I suppose I would have known the context but I can only stomach one Trump snippet every 48 hours and morbid curiosity drew me to the creepy daddy whisper. I don’t know what I was thinking, I already have trouble sleeping.

You’re welcome and boy do I know that feeling (boy do we all know it). It’s only a guess, but knowing his mind-blind habit of assuming everyone knows what he’s thinking, my guess is that they’d been talking about it at the “wtf do we do now?” meeting just before the rally, and that’s why it was on his “mind.”
