Unambiguous and threatening

Michigan trumpers are armed and dangerous.

Michigan secretary of state Jocelyn Benson said dozens of armed protesters gathered in a threatening manner outside her home on Saturday evening chanting “bogus” claims about electoral fraud.

Armed protesters. Outside her house. In support of a criminal trying to steal an election. We’re on a knife-edge here.

In a Twitter statement on Sunday, Benson said the protesters were trying to spread false information about the security and accuracy of the US election system. “The demands made outside my home were unambiguous, loud and threatening.”

Michigan attorney general Dana Nessel, in a separate Twitter post, accused the pro-Trump demonstrators of “mob-like behavior (that) is an affront to basic morality and decency”.

“Anyone can air legitimate grievances to Secretary Benson’s office through civil and democratic means, but terrorizing children and families in their own homes is not activism.”

Knife-edge.

The parallels with Weimar Germany circa 1929-32 are serious, and not to be taken lightly. While Captain Bonespurs is hardly Fuehrer material, and cracks are appearing in the GOP edifice, there are others no doubt waiting in the wings. (nb not Ivanka.)

I’ve been taking them about as heavily as it’s possible to take anything.

As I recall, the Munich Beer Hall putsch was a bit of a comedic failure, too.

    HHO,

Well, you see, there was this longstanding moral dilemma about whether, if you had access to a time machine, you should use it to go back in time and kill this guy Drumpf who grew up to become a genocidal German dictator. I thought that a more nuanced approach would do the trick, so I convinced the Drumpf family to emigrate to America, then I monitored the results. It… did not go well for either country.

First they want to kidnap a female Governor, then they go after a female Secretary of State. Easy to see what the victims have in common : Democrats, both of them. Must be.

    Ophelia :

I live in Michigan and the mob- like actions of a few are outrageous when viewed by Michiganders and people such as myself. I can only say this is allowed to happen by the Michigan Republican legislature who show outrage when the public is told to wear masks, socially distance, and stay at home in the safety of their homes.

The Michigan House has been majority controlled since 1990 with the exception of 4 years. The Michigan Senate has been owned by Republicans since 1983. Up till Governor Whitmer, the Republicans have been had control of the governorship two of three times since 1990. The state is Gerrymandered to deliver such results.

My point to this is the Republicans show little concern as to what is happening to the SOS Michigan, the Governor who was threatened with kidnapping, and our State AG. There is no outrage on their part as to the antics of their followers. Indeed, Livingston County’s Republican Sheriff Mike Murphy said he will not enforce Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s executive orders. The silence of Michigan Republicanism is deafening.

This is not to say the state is not changing, as it is changing. It has voted for its Democratic Senators (mostly) and President since 1990 with the exception of 2016 for president. The state will change in time. A citizens commission for redistricting has been put together by law. Perhaps sooner than later, much of this threatening and armed protesting will be put in its proper place and elected officials will do their jobs instead of ignoring 50% of the state’s political population

Feckless, haven’t you heard? White people are never terrorists. They’re white, right? They are honest, law-abiding citizens showing their justifiable anger at having someone…what? Say no to them, I guess. Vote for someone else, someone they don’t want. Not terrorists, no, never. Ammon Bundy wasn’t a terrorists, no. Only people of other colors, nationalities, or religions are terrorists.
