From my experience with arguments over on FTB, I believe the ‘harm to cis women and girls’ belief is actually in reference to their belief that keeping toilets etc. single sex will require genital inspections for anyone that wants to use the womens’ rooms.
I’m sure that comes from their belief that no one can tell the difference between men and women. We don’t inspect genitals now, and we never have. Yes, sometimes a woman might be seen to be in the wrong restroom, but that is usually relatively easily clarified.
It is also the delusion that these men “pass”.

And no, you don’t get to then assert, “but trans women are women”. That’s the conclusion of a different argument, not an axiom. Until that argument is accepted as sound and valid, you don’t get to use its conclusion as a premise anywhere.

Based on what I’ve encountered on the internet, in addition to the genital inspections TRAs are very, very concerned about females who don’t look “feminine enough” being insulted, challenged, and thrown out of Women’s restrooms by women policing the place for transwomen. There are a bunch of articles written by female trans allies detailing the abuse they suffered because some other woman thought they were transgender. These articles are usually accompanied by a photo of an obvious female with short hair, t shirt, and jeans. See? Transphobes can’t tell sex. The only way to protect mannish cis-woman is to make it illegal to throw anyone out.
These stories are also used as evidence that Gender Critical feminists want (or are fine with) women going back to long hair, dresses, makeup, and high heels so they don’t get mistaken for transwomen. This makes little to no sense, since many transwomen wear those things and that makes it a poor “disguise” but apparently gender conformity is part of our Secret Master Plan.
That’s what these activists don’t seem to understand!!! Argh.
Sastra, the other thing about those stories: no evidence. If they present a video they shot, sure. If they have witnesses (preferably unbiased witnesses), sure. But…
I am aware that there are certain pre-packaged stories Christians use to show how Christianity “saved their life”. I was actually thumbing through one of their books in our library lately. It was as amusing as it was horrifying. I suspect there is a similar thing going on with trans-allies. Of course, it could also be that they perceived something as being mistreated when it wasn’t any such thing. The young woman in the gynecologist’s office is a good example. Were people really staring at her? I doubt it, since she looked very much like a woman with short hair, and not a they/them enbee special snowflake. And it is my experience that people do not look at each other in the doctor’s office; they stare at their book, their phone, or their shoes.
I am unaware of a long history of throwing women out of bathrooms for not looking feminine enough. There have probably been some cases of women mistaking very masculine looking women for men, but overall, having short hair does not make other women think you are a man.
Take Tilda Swinton… she’s iconically androgynous but the only kind of man you’ll ever confuse her with is say, David Bowie, so…
