Jason Stanley compares feminists to white supremacists

Yale philosophy bro Jason Stanley tweeted a faux-naïve question about why it’s always women who dispute claims about trans women, and never men. I’m giving the gist because he’s now deleted it (and of course insulted the feminist women who replied) and I don’t have a screenshot handy.

The question was so faux-naïve (he must know perfectly well why), and the deletion so quick, that it seems highly likely he did it on purpose – a tiny little one act drama in which Yale stud asks thoughtful question, transphobic witches respond with their phobic witchery, and he deletes the innocent tweet with regret about all the witchy phobicry. Misogynist prick. I daren’t say that on Twitter but I can say it here.

He compares feminist women to Hindutva and white supremacists. Misogynist prick.

A remarkable display of sophistry there. Way to generalize, make ad hominem attacks, false equivalences, and spew unjustified crapola there “professor.” He obviously needs some continuing ed. classes in critical thinking. To be fair though, his comments there are so agenda driven it’s bound to be idiotic.

Transphobia is destroying democracy? Who knew? I thought it was entitled assholes who think they get to be king, and other entitled assholes repressing the vote, and other entitled assholes shooting people who disagree with them. And now I find out…it’s us. The US TERFs. Who knew we had so much power? I wish I’d known that; I’d have been enjoying it more.

Also, *always* women? I’m not a woman, so does being in support of gender critical feminists make me trans or what? Or worse, a member of a hate group now? Sheesh. I can’t even…

@3: Actually, for some reason I thought you were a woman. I’m not sure why. Thank you for clarifying that (without even realizing that I was mistaken).

Thanks for the compliment GW. :D

For a “philosopher,” this guy leaves a lot to be desired. Now Staley claims “supporting trans rights” is some kind of grandiose “fight for global democracy.” >> https://mobile.twitter.com/jasonintrator/status/1534592219533000705?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet

    Kool Aid anyone? :P

Your (purposeful) confusion as to what a woman is what gives aid and comfort to the enemies of democracy. Your insistence on taking an extremely unpopular maximalist position on stupid idpol is letting the bad guys win. And voters are simultaneously smart enough to see through your bullshit and stupid enough to be blind to the threat presented as we saw in Virginia.

My guess is that ”transphobia is trying to destroy democracy” refers to attempts by Republican legislators to forbid teaching gender ideology in public schools and administering “gender affirming care” to minors. This undermines democracy in a way that forbidding Creationism and Gay Conversion Therapy didn’t. And forcing public schools to separate bathrooms and sports by sex by passing laws? Undemocratic, and best addressed by getting the courts to rule that trans people are legally and in truth not just the “gender” they identify with, but the sex, too.

Sastra, I think he likely means that the Republicans are taking advantage of transphobia as a way to win votes. That the Republican Party is out to destroy democracy is already a given. Stanley is snidely smearing gender-critical women in the U.K. as allies of Republicans though, but I’m sure he knows they’re not sympathetic towards the Republican Party. He’s just doing what other TRAs have been doing, avoiding engaging with gender-critical feminists in good faith, and claiming they’re helping the bad guys by being critical of gender.

I don’t think we owe him any careful parsing of his meaning. I think he just means to abuse feminist women, end of story.

I saw that he said (at least; don’t know if there were others):

Nobody ever asks anyone belligerently, “what is a man?” or struts around going, “a man is an adult human male.” What’s that about.

    He’s being disingenuous, of course.

Interestingly/weirdly one of the tweets you’ve captured above is from this guy:

He may be one of those ‘dude you’re making all TIMs (not to mention philosophy professors) sound unhinged, please stop’ TIMs.

And what is his deal with Hindutva? From what I can see he made this comparison several times.

Yes, guest, I was wondering what Chappell was doing in there. Although this is the link I’d use:
