This is the one show I am looking forward to the remake of; I don’t think Cleese will let us down.

Parkinson was a real loss to TV when he retired, a great interviewer who let the subjects talk, but brooked no nonsense if they rambled. Yes, he had a couple of faux pas, but who hasn’t?

And now Parkie has gone to his great reward in the eternal TV Studio of our minds.

    Vale.

And Jonathan Miller too, alas. Brilliant guy. [He’s the third guy, in case anyone didn’t spot him.]

I had dinner with Jonathan Miller once. No, I’m lying, or at least grossly exaggerating. I went to a dinner in Cambridge at which he was one of the 20 or so other people present. He was in a place for honoured guests; I wasn’t. I didn’t talk to him. I found him a bit loud and pleased with himself. I think Shirley Williams may have been there as well, though maybe I’m confusing it with another occasion. I didn’t talk to her, either.
