What does that mean?

What are authentic selves?

Why? Everybody deserves to be protected in the sense of shielded from violence and exploitation, but nobody “deserves” to be celebrated. That’s a silly claim, or slogan – it’s a slogan rather than a claim but it’s in the form of a claim, which makes it both pernicious and ridiculous. We might as well run around saying [insert random set of people here] deserve immortality, or a car, or a lifetime ticket to Disneyland, or a slap-up meal at Taco Bell.

Sane progressive campaigns have sane goals. Feminist campaigns, labor campaigns, anti-racism campaigns all focused on genuine, specific rights and reasonable, achievable goals. They did not demand pampering and flattery and ass-kissing.

These campaigns sound more like Trump than like the SPLC or the Feminist Majority Foundation.

    These people would benefit greatly from living as their authentic selves.

    Everybody should have the right to live as their authentic selves, which is why we should have the right for Planned Parenthood and all the other creeps pushing gender ideology to fuck right off.

    As always with genderology, the terms are not defined. What does “authentic” mean? By what criteria can anyone assess authenticity? Changing the body by various artifices (e.g., puberty blockers, wrong-sex hormones, genital or breast or facial surgeries) strikes me as artificial. The whole enterprise is an illusion, to support a lie: the lie that someone is the sex that they actually are not. That’s the opposite of “authentic.” Lying about something as basic and as important as sex destroys any claim of “authenticity.”

    I don’t forsee any prospect that I will ever forgive Planned Parenthood for jumping onto the trans bandwagon. It’s an utter betrayal of women and the importance of women’s rights to actually necessary medical care, medical care that women are denied because of their sex.

    But of course PP succumbed to the temptation of a cash cow that creates a stream of clients who will become lifelong patients. So they sold their core clientele — women — down the river.

    I was a regular donor for many years. Never again.
