Stunning rebuke

For once I’m glad I woke up hours early.

Voters deliver stunning rebuke of Trump as Democrats take control of House and Senate

Democrats flipped seven seats in the Senate, while two races — Alaska and Mississippi — are still too early to call.

Momentous sweep: Democrats have flipped control of both the House and Senate in a resounding and historic victory, CNN projects. They capitalized on President Donald Trump’s historic unpopularity to win significant power to check his final two years in office.

Trump’s response: The president told The New York Times he’ll accept the results, and in an interview with Fox News, he said he didn’t see the GOP losses “as a hit on me.”

Gee, how nice of him.

Democratic Senate wins: Abdul El-Sayed will in Michigan, CNN projects, becoming the first Muslim senator in US history. Democrats flipped seven other Senate seats — in Ohio, Iowa, South Carolina, Maine, North Carolina, Kansas and Texas.

I don’t particularly want a Muslim senator, any more than I want a Christian one, because I don’t want theocracy in general (because God hates women), but better a goddy senator than a trumpy one.

I agree that the cult of trump is currently a bigger threat than religion.

I thought that the Prisoners’ Chorus from Fidelio was the more traditional choice (hat tip Chris Patten).

My god. I guess the last two months of telling everyone ‘treat the midterms as if I am on the ballot’ was a figment of my imagination.
