Yabut, that’s just because “you guys” hear the Presidential Oath too literally. Of course he will not mean it when he utters it, not for one millisecond (if he is that quick; otherwise, not for the minimum of reaction time and attention span). And remember: laws don’t apply to him. Except possibly gravity — that might be a fruitful field of experiment. 57th floor, was it?

I’ve given up hope that this will amount to anything. Congress doesn’t care and there doesn’t seem to be anywhere near enough popular outrage to force them to do anything. Responses from Joe and Jane Schmoe seem to fall into two basic categories: “Gee, sounds like he’s almost as corrupt as HILLARY!” and “I looked up the emoluments clause and it doesn’t apply. Nobody is offering him a dukedom or other title.”

This is my fear, too. With all this stuff — all these violations and potential violations, all the trespasses — there needs to be someone with authority to say, “No. You can’t.”

I’m afraid it won’t be enough for him to break the law, ignore the norm, spit on the rules. Who will actually call him on it?
