No judges, no hearings, no due process, no rule of law

Trump getting worse by the hour. Now he’s announcing that immigrants who cross the border illegally should have no due process.

He was saying it in Las Vegas yesterday:

While in Las Vegas on Saturday, Mr. Trump told supporters that he thought the immigration system needed fewer judges — putting him in conflict with a proposal by Senator Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas, to expand the number of judges in an effort to process cases more quickly. Mr. Trump also suggested last week that he opposed adding judges because many of them could be corrupt.

He has criticized immigration judges for weeks, saying they were not effective in stopping the flow of people coming into the country, sometimes using incorrect numbers to make his point.

That is, sometimes lying to make his point. He’s the president. He has a responsibility to get his facts right before he vomits out his hate-rants.

Tribe forgot “de facto executioner” for some…

Next come the disappearances. People who cross the border will vanish, never to be seen again.

The capitalization of “Law and Order” is telling, coming from someone who deliberately creates chaos and regularly flouts the law. It’s a concept, to him and his ilk, one that has no actual connection to the real concepts those words stand for.

But our system is a mockery to law and order – after all, our very leadership is breaking laws right and left, and no one is doing anything about it. So in a way, he’s right. And our immigration policy under Trump is also a mockery of law and order, since law and order are supposed to include knowing the charges, confronting the accuser, a quick and speedy trial by a jury of your peers, and humane treatment.

Trump’s notion of due process, summarized:

Anybody who an immigration officer says is an illegal immigrant should be deported immediately, no hearing, no judge, no questions asked.

Nobody is allowed to fire, boycott, criticize, or even report on someone accused of sexual harassment unless and until there has been a criminal conviction (even though many acts of harassment aren’t actually even crimes).
