Only be sure always to call it please “research”

But have you done the RESEARCH? Where is your RESEARCH?

That’s how you do RESEARCH. You read an article in Jezebel and a thread on Twitter. That’s RESEARCH.

She’s a bizarre character, Dr. Dorothy Kim. She has an…impoverished vocabulary, to put it politely, and she’s free with the epithets. She’s also an academic, in the English department at Brandeis.

“Violent misgendering” – what’s that when it’s at home? How can the made up faux pas of “misgendering” possibly be violent?

She reported me to the authorities yesterday. I don’t think they paid any attention.

I don’t see any sort of misgendering in that tweet at all… no mention of pronouns as far as I can tell.

Seriously. Did no one actually do research about TERFs:

Pretty funny, given that she is urging people to ignore recent research.

A terf is a white supremacist whose gateway etc. …

Is Emily G consciously making the claim that all terfs (i.e. people who believe biological sex trumps ‘identifying as’ a sex) are also white supremacists, or is that just sloppy wording? Also, it’s just amazing the sheer breadth of crap piled at the feet of anyone disagreeing with the sacred dogma. Say, who else is reminded of evangelicals branding atheists as secret muslim jewish satanist communists who rape and eat babies? Another link to fundamentalist religion: absolutely no restraint nor rationality when it comes to tarring the designated enemy.

“Biological males.” That’s glory violent misgendering for you.

Holms – oh yes, that’s what she’s doing, as is Kim. It’s just another label to slap on, to intensify the horror and the shunning.

Wow, Emily G found the good stash. Or maybe the bad stash — whichever one makes you say a bunch of ridiculous nonsense. I wonder if she ever wrote her blog post on this strong link between women wanting women-only spaces and white supremacy, which is apparently the same as anti-semitism (I tried to gin up enough interest to look for it, but I couldn’t do it).

Feminists and conservatives have made common cause before (pornography, prostitution). Everyone doesn’t neatly line up on two sides and one side is evil. I’m not surprised at the stereotypically social conservative reaction to transgender issues, but I have been pleasantly surprised at how often the conservative reaction is disbelief at how women are being thrown under the bus.

In reality there’s a huge amount of territory where agreement between left and right isn’t even surprising…aka much of life isn’t political, and there are many ways to find commonality with people.

It’s really kind of a shame–a 10-second look at her Twitter page showed me that a) some people I read also read her (which surprised me initially) and b) pretty much everything (else) on her profile was interesting and thought provoking, and stuff I would be willing to give a metaphorical ear to. Just on this one issue she appears to have had a mind-melt and turned into a nasty golem about it.

I’m going on vacation with some old friends in a month or so, and admit I’m worried I’m going to have this same experience IRL. I’ve been thinking of what I’m going to need to do to not ruin the vacation for all of us–probably say something like ‘I don’t want to discuss this issue and expect you to respect my boundary on this.’

‘I don’t want to discuss this issue and expect you to respect my boundary on this.’

I tried that one. I got deemed a TERF.

Next week; TERFS will be exposed as secret Zionists.

JtD – they are probably also Satanists; unless you are a member of The Satanic Temple, in which they will be deemed to be anti-Satanists. (I watched the movie Hail Satan? this weekend, and there was talk of trans rights, complete with an obviously male-bodied individual who had long pink hair so was a woman).
