Look closely

That “protest” outside the women’s meeting last night was even more vile than the contemporaneous tweets indicated.

It takes a little effort to puzzle out the image. It’s a guy in a hoody with a mask over his face, with a zipper where his mouth would be, and a pink-wrapped phallus.

I suspect the mask is more related to generic S&M, or possibly ‘Pulp Fiction.’

Can we call this terrorism yet? Or do we have to wait still?

It’s hard to tell whether the outfit was designed to resemble Cook’s as there are both similarities and differences. But it was certainly meant to menace and intimidate women. I’m sure it was meant to imply the ‘punishment’ rape of women.

The “pink wrapped phallus” bit confused me at first, but it is evident when the photo is clicked on. And I too suspect the outfit is generically S&M rather than aping a specific person, while retaining the common purpose of intimidation.

Yes I don’t particularly buy the idea that the costume imitates anything that specific, but I think the overtones are of interest. The anonymous intimidating core of it remains the same.

There is nothing “progressive” about ANY of this. Nothing.

I suppose the pink wrapped phallus is a “girl dick”?

I suppose it’s a good reference picture, anyway, so people know what you’re talking about when you say “Trans Rights Activist.”

Way to distance yourself from the charge that TRAs are a bunch of fetishists.

But Ben, isn’t putting on a bondage mask, tying pink ribbons around your ding-dong, and parading it about in public an excellent way to prove you’re not auto-gynephilic?

Papito—you’re right. I fell into the trap of looking at it through a white feminist colonialist lens.

It also paves the way for them to rebut any criticism of their activism style with an accusation of kink shaming. Not that transness is a kink! Ah fuck, looks like I’m due for a stint in the reeducation camp. See you there, Ben :(
