The Mountain

The Seattle National Weather Service people get great photos, on account of how their building is a few yards away from Lake Washington (which is the eastern boundary of Seattle).

Wow! We have no neighbourhood volcano to spice up our sunrises.

Heh, it’s pretty special having a neighborhood volcano.

I will say, we get some pretty spectacular sunsets, partially because of all the particulate matter from rampant agriculture. But we don’t have any mountains, and there is something about sunrise over a plowed field that just isn’t quite the same.

Seriously. I’ve been ruined for living in flat places by living here so long. A city that doesn’t have steep climbs and plunges every half mile or so just doesn’t feel like a proper city to me now.

Speaking of hilly cities Ophelia, ever been to Quebec City? Walking there is a workout.

I was up close and personal with Rainier when I backpacked the Wonderland trail five years ago. What amazed this flatlander is how the mountain could be completely obscured by clouds from Longmire and other places on its very flanks.

There’s a saying around here: if you can see the hills, it’s going to rain, if you can’t see the hills, it’s raining.
