“organized transphobic violence”

https://twitter.com/zugenia/status/1512415953140826114

She doesn’t “have to say” that of course; she chose to.

Arguing that gender is not something to celebrate but a system of oppression which should be rejected is not “organized transphobic violence.”

But this guy knows better.

Reading that gender is a system of oppression will encourage violence!

What must it be like being an academic now? Can you imagine having to teach students who believe all this crap? To say nothing of having colleagues who do.

The whole “want” vs. “have to” thing is interesting. I remember when I reached an age when I learned how to say “I’m not going to do X because I don’t want to“, when I realized that I was allowed to have wishes of my own. I was approximately 26 years old, I think.

I’ve met lots and lots of people that say “I have to tell you X”, when it’s something that you won’t want to hear; they really mean “I want to tell you X”, but they don’t believe that they are allowed to want things, and this is a way of deflecting responsibility: you’re not going to like this, but don’t blame me for saying it, since I have to say it.

Yes, that’s very passive-aggressive, that “I have to tell you” thing. “I gotta tell you/I gotta say” is different, it doesn’t really mean “I have to,” it’s more of a decorative introduction.

Yes, unfortunately, I can imagine it. Also they believe that all ideas are equal, and whatever ideas they have should be respected and recognized as true. It comes as a huge shock to them to realize that science isn’t organized around what you think or feel, but around what you can provide evidence to support.

Yes well if you throw bombs like what follows, you will receive pushback from those being slandered.

Unless that idea is that we should reject gender, then you’re evil and need to be fired and pilloried. Also, this reminds me: I’ve been thinking for some months now that gender rejecting is a better label than critical.

If Mr Pink Tea-Cosy thinks a clear and engaging book published by OUP is “horrifying” I wonder how he would characterise the atrocities and massacres in Ukraine.

These people who think all their ideas are true – they must have grown up without older siblings. I grew up with two and it seems to me they made sure I didn’t put too much stock in my ideas.

@6 Or a father who treated you as an insufferable know it all. You learn to examine your thoughts pretty carefully with one of those too, or just keep quiet. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

WHAT “organized transphobic violence”? There isn’t any. None. Zero. Zilch. Be specific. Otherwise it’s a lying libelous lie.

“a book that will encourage anti-trans violence.” No, it doesn’t. To the extent that trans-identified-males experience violence, (1) men, not women, are the perpetrators, and (2) it’s not caused by anything that women have said or done to protect women’s rights. All the violence goes the other direction; men who want to colonize women’s spaces threaten women with rape, death, and violence. All the women have to do is say things. Saying things is not violence. The trans lobby blames women for violence committed by men. Another lying libelous lie. That’s all they have: lies and threats.

At what point in the conversation did “trans” come to mean only men in woman face? Where is the support for the trans men?

Ah yes, my old acquaintance misogyny.

But they’ve been allowed to PUBLISH A BOOK! How is that even ALLOWED!! THEY SUPPOSED TO ALL BE CANCELLED!!!

All the women have to do is say things. Saying things is not violence.

IS TO! MISGENDERING! DEADNAMING!! SAYING NO!!! IT’S ALL VIOLENCE!!!!

For a group that decries failure to use preferred pronouns as tantamount to assault, the prospect of a whole fucking book dedicated to a critical examination of gender ideology must be terrifying. Without the constant high level of transperbole used to warn the faithful of the Eternal Impending Danger, their movement collapses lake an inflatable lawn ornament when the fan is turned off. They can never relax, never let down their guard. The more and greater the resistance, the more desperate and extreme the response to it has to be, even though they’re already dialed up to eleven. Demonizing opponents is the only response they have. God knows they have no arguments. If they did, they would use them. If feminist arguments are actually heard and heeded, trans claims are shown to be lies, bullying, and moral blackmail, which are the very techniques used against anyone who questions trans demands. The Venn overlap is a perfect circle; gender ideology’s content and methodology are exactly the same.

Last I checked an author isn’t required to be published by a publisher who publishes books said author doesn’t like. Go self-publish and then you won’t ever have to complain again.
