IT’S ALIVE

Sorry sorry sorry!

I was worried that y’all might worry, because when I know I won’t be posting I let you know.

The internet in the big house went out (and mine is parasitic on it so mine went out too). This was yesterday morning, and as soon as it was almost 10 I hustled over to the library so that I could at least say why I was silent, but oh ha guess what, it was CLOSED because of the heat. Old Carnegie branch, you see, very elegant but no AC. Closed until Monday.

Sorry!

Kewel. I admit, I was concerned.

I figured people would be, not least because heat waves kill.

Welcome back, Ophelia! Glad to know you’re ok. Before the internet and cellphones people weren’t expected to be available 24/7, and so nobody used to worry if they couldn’t reach you for a couple of days. In a way it’s reassuring to know that real emergencies are more likely to be detected in time these days, but there is a downside to all this as well. A few years ago I forgot my cellphone at work while going to my father’s cabin for the weekend which triggered a large-scale search operation while I was out fishing. My loved ones had been worried out of their minds, but I was mainly just embarrassed as hell.

Oh lord, that would be embarrassing.

Well, I hope you enjoyed your little rest. We won’t say a word about our frazzled nerves. No, don’t apologize. It’s fine. I said it’s fine.

I’m glad it’s something as simple as that and you’re okay.

Should I recall the St. Bernard’s? Or nah.

Of course we worry. Once upon a time, we would worry and be unable to get reassurance.

Now, at least, we have a network of people all over the world: so in just a few clicks, we can find whoever is closest so that they can go and check when someone suddenly vanishes from the internet.

I pretty much guessed what had happened, but heatwaves are dangerous, and the sooner something is done for someone collapsed from heat exhaustion, the better.

I’m so glad that you are OK, and I’m glad that you have friends around you to make sure that you stay that way.

I apologize for not worrying. I was traveling, and the internet in my hotel was spotty. I wasn’t getting any email, either. I just figured it wasn’t connecting properly.

But now I can at least rest easy knowing that I didn’t not worry in vain.

I didn’t enjoy it one bit, Sastra, I HATED it. Twitch city.

Of course it didn’t help that it’s way too god damn hot here right now.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: you have a LARGE family of friends here who care about you and we’re all just glad that you’re okay! You did try to get to the library (in the heat!!) to send an update, so you’re off the hook.

And this heat–BLECH. They say it will be better tomorrow. We’ll see. The flippin’ fat in my suet bird-feeders melted out!!

I was a little worried, yes.

I’m not angry, though. Just disappointed.

“the big house”? Are you leaching wi-fi from your local prison?

I was right on the point of calling out a Google search party. I was worried that Ophelia could have been taken by a trans-grizzly or some other such modern monster.
