Letting women know

A man tells the world what a magnificent, subversive act it is for a man to sing a song about how much better than women he is and then get naked on live tv.

Maybe the problem is that the naked body was transgender? he says. And/or that he called Jordan’s penis and boobs magnificent?

I called them that because their very exposure felt like a magnificent, subversive act, saying as it did, “Here I am.”

That’s so interesting because you know what it feels like to a woman? It feels like all those other times a man has exposed his penis [though usually not his “boobs”] to them without invitation, starting in childhood. To us it doesn’t feel magnificent or subversive, it just feels like the same old sly power move.

It takes really impressive stupidity and obliviousness to blather in public about the magnificent subversion of a man getting his dick out when it’s not exactly a secret that girls and women are all too familiar with this particular brand of “subversion.” It’s like calling it magnificent and subversive to walk around in a KKK t-shirt. It’s like calling it magnificent and subversive to slap posters of lynchings on telephone poles. The penis has a very dual nature for women, inevitably. It’s one thing for lovers and spouses, and very much another for strangers. An unrequested penis is not just a gesture, subversive or otherwise; it’s also a threat and potentially a weapon. That’s sad but it’s the reality. How utterly indifferent to female people do you have to be not to know that?
