‘“the ban on trans and non-binary cyclists” Please, media, stop writing this. No one is banning anyone. ‘Emily’ is perfectly entitled to continue his cycle racing career if he chooses to.
But there’s the winning, and the affirmation, too. Racing against men, he’s much less likely to make the cut, and he’s off to the sidelines (like most other men), with no prospects for endorsement contracts, and a much smaller audience for his stunnly bravitude.
She has a son calling himself ‘Emily.’ The sooner she gets used to that, the sooner she’ll stop holding innocent women responsible for the state of his mental health. For a while, he’s been allowed to cheat against these women. Now that this loophole has been closed, he’s left having to deal with the need to find an honest substitute for his ill-gotten fame and notoriety. To the degree that his mother has aided and abetted his efforts to violate women’s spaces, she’s much more to blame (along with the cycling authorities that invited him to cheat in the first place) than the women defending their sport.
As I see it, the possibilities are endless. For starters, ‘Emily” could take the front seat and handlebars on a bicycle built for two, and with his mother ‘Sandy Ally She/Her’ having the rear position, but without ability to contribute energy to move the machine due to her rear pedals having been rermoved. So the extra drag weight of Mum should even things up again for the other (female) contestants.
Just a suggestion, mind. But surely worth a try.
Also, they could fasten lead weights under Mum’s saddle, as they do for ‘handicapping’ in horse racing. If ‘Emily’ with his/her masculine musculature still kept winning too many races, they could force him/her to race with flat tyres, or ride a kid’s tricycle. Should even things up a bit.
