Oh how shamefully shameful. Also how adult of a councillor to storm out because a colleague forgot to pretend he has a luxury gender identity with luxury pronouns to match.
The incident happened when Newham councillor Danny Keeling, who uses they/them pronouns, was speaking against Labour’s budget plans at a full council meeting on Monday (February 27) at Stratford Olympic Park.
There’s no such thing as “using” X pronouns—>everyone has to use them. Your using eccentric pronouns about yourself does not repeat DOES NOT mean that anyone else has to.
Keeling, who is Newham’s first openly non-binary councillor, was repeatedly misgendered by Labour council chairperson Winston Vaughan, who referred to Keeling as “he”.
“First openly non-binary” doesn’t mean anything. Everyone is non-binary. It’s not closed. No purpose is served by this Keeling fella’s making such a fuss about his boring non-binary hood.
Speaking with PinkNews, Keeling said incidents of misgendering have been taking place for “weeks and weeks, meeting after meeting” where several councillors “never use the correct pronouns whatsoever”.
Child, find some better way to draw attention to yourself. Almost anything would do.

I’ve heard Blocked and Reported struggle to “respect” them and BARpod’s official stance is use “proper” pronouns. It’s hard even if you’re onboard.
I have a very bad habit….arguing on the internet Especially when it comes to YouTube comments sections, that is silly.
There is a young YouTuber I follow because he is amusing, Phillion. Anyway, he just uploaded a video about a particularly creepy young actor named Ezra Miller. Drugs, attacking fans, odd behavior, violence, and grooming 12 year olds. A pretty thorough takedown of the kid’s life.
You can guess what the issue that came up repeatedly in the comments was: Phillion (gasp) MISGENDERED Ezra…who is NON BINARY.
I guess because I was relaxing after a cycling day and wanted to do something mindless I let myself get sucked in to responding to too many of these woke genderists. I had to ask them: “How can you suddenly decide Ezra is not really NB? There are no criteria. Self ID. Why are you acting as a gatekeeper?”
Silly Silly Silly. Arguing on the internet is fun but useless.
Brian, you’re not being silly at all. When people ask me why I do it, on the grounds that it appears unlikely that I’ll change the mind of any of the cultists, I respond that I’m not doing it to change their minds, but to demonstrate to the people who are reading along, but not joining in, that the cultists don’t have the right side on this. The longer I can keep making calm and rational comments whilst getting responses with an increasing lack of coherence and decreasing politeness, the more likely it is that someone on the fence might decide not to join the cult after all. If, in the few years I’ve been arguing in favour of reality*, my comments have persuaded just one lurker to back away from becoming another gender abattoir statistic, I count that as a win. I can’t change the world, but I hope that I can contribute in a very small way to making it better for someone.

*I’m not on YouTube. I’ve been arguing much, much longer in favour of a sensible approach to modern medicine and vaccination, and have encountered on the internet many women who have admitted that they used to be ‘vaccine hesitant’, or even actively hostile, until the calm, rational arguments of our side persuaded them that their children, far from being ‘kept pure’, were being actively put in harm’s way, so swapped sides, joined the pro-vaccine group, and got their children protected. Calm, rational, advocacy works. Especially when the opposition are being frothing-at-the-mouth lunatics, trying hard to shut up debate.
P.S. You only have to go through the archives here to see how our wonderful host and commenters here saved me from the cult. The very least I can do is pay it forward.
tigger…good philosophy. But seriously…I wanted to know how these folks decide Ezra Miller is not a “real” NB? Self ID is the thing, no? Gate keeping us bad, no?
NB (or trans) status, like Scottish citizenship, is always provisional, contingent upon the goodwill of the rest of the “community.” “They” only gets to keep “their” identity up to the point they get caught doing anything embarrassing or disreputable, like grooming kids (or for aspirant Scotsmen, putting sugar on his porridge). Once they become a liability, then it can be decided they weren’t ever really NB, trans, or Scottish to begin with.
