Jolyon says he and Jo used to be friends.
Do we believe him?
Jo doesn’t, and she seems like a pretty solid source.

Funny how simply knowing and saying “Men are not women” is somehow “radical,” while believing that “men can become women, and are therefore entitled to absolutely everything that women have, want, or deserve,” isn’t. This “radicalization” narrative that Maugham is pushing is needed in order to conceal the fact that what Rowling “believes in” is just good-old, ordinary, everyday reality, and that it’s genderism itself that is cracked, crazy, and violently extreme.
It’s also connected to the idea that enforcing the UK Supreme Court’s “biological sex” ruling is somehow difficult or complicated, and that the government’s failure to issue the requisite guidance is anything but foot-dragging reluctance to avoid pissing off entitled men and their “allies.” It was never mind-bendingly complicated to say, as we did in the past, “no males in female spaces.” But now, this is, somehow, for some inexplicable and unexplained reason, completely impossible, and unforgiveably, hatefully bigotted. What was once simply commonplace, just cannot, and ought not, and must not be done. Or so we’re told, over and over again. Even by the goddamn Girl Guides for fuck’s sake.
That a tiny subset of men are upset at being correctly sexed is no reason to destroy women’s rights, but the minister responsible seems to think it is. All women must pay the price to keep a very few men happy and horny, and she must keep them free to violate women’s boundaries in order to not ruin the fantasy world political future in which she believes she can continue to climb higher without paying any kind of penalty for throwing half the population under the bus, and out of their single-sex spaces. How is that belief not constitutive of “radicalization?
Rowling isn’t some confused, naive teenager who’s been led astray, and in danger of blowing up strangers on a bus in service to some mad, delusional, fundamentalist, religious bullshit. The “radicalization” is entirely on the other side. She’s not going to call for, or even fantasize about, “trans genocide,”* or gun down children in schools**. Genderists are trying to use the mirror they can’t bear to look into to reflect the spotight away from themselves.
