Unison invited people to email to say why the guidance was unworkable. I emailed to say why I support it and was surprised I wasn’t asked for my membership number. So – they weren’t trying to be balanced but only inviting views they wanted and didn’t check respondents were members and I’m not surprised 600 said exactly what they wanted.
Unison is 80% female and they’re in a brilliant position to find out what ordinary women workers really think about this issue, to find ways which work for everyone and to make themselves relevant. They’ve totally lost sight of how unions are supposed to work and wonder why people think they’re out of touch. It’s not as though workers’ rights no longer need fighting for and it’s a tragedy that those at the top of the union movement have betrayed their history and their membership
