Elliott Page not getting calls.
Page recently appeared in Christopher Nolan’s cinematic adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey, starring as the Greek warrior Sinon, an Ithacan soldier and a pawn used by Odysseus to put a stop to the Trojan War.
Newly speaking on the podcast On Film… With Kevin McCarthy, Page was asked whether he has been getting “a zillion calls after this movie”. The actor had a depressing response.
The Oscar nominee admitted, “No, Kevin, I’m not. So, if anyone wants to call me…I know I get some pushback for being – Canadian? I don’t know what it’s about.”
Page’s sly remark jokingly touched upon the fact that he is transgender, and the industry famously often fails to recognise actors from marginalised and oppressed communities.
Hur hur. But seriously folks – might it be not so much that Page is from marginalised and oppressed communities as it is that she’s not much use as an actor? Are there a lot of parts for exceptionally small men? I don’t think so. I think the movie industry is quite focused on appearance, and I think there aren’t a lot of parts for Page’s particular height and bulk and muscularity. Could be wrong, but that’s my hunch.
