Aidan is puzzled

Vigilance! Eternal vigilance! You can’t ever have enough of it, and the object can’t ever be too many connections away. If you know someone who has a friend who has a neighbor who has a colleague who approved of someone who committed wrongthought once ten years ago or so, you are a legitimate object of vigilance, censure, and ostracism.

What?

Slow down, Captain Vigilance. Why they what? Why they follow an account, that has a pinned link, to an online shop, that includes in its merchandise a banner?

Does Captain Vigilance seriously think that people examine all the tweets of person X before following person X? Does he think people examine all those tweets so minutely that they check to see what that linked online shop sells, and by “what that online shop sells” I mean every single item?

There’s also the question of why he thinks it’s any of his business anyway, but we know that already. Step one in my Flight From the Wokies was Improbable Joe on Twitter demanding why I was following Helen Lewis and Glosswitch. To this day I don’t understand why people think that’s a question they’re entitled to ask.

The funny thing is that at some level he knew it was outrageous because he started with “I hope you don’t mind if I ask” (or something similar)…but when I said “Well actually I do mind” he promptly went ballistic. From fakey-manipulative to YOU ARE THOUGHT CRIMINAL in one step.

“Why are you not following them??”

My answer would be, “Because they are clever, sharp and incisive.”

The sad thing is among the lefty tribe, there is still a profound lack of recognition, no a denial, that the purity policing by the woke of thought crimes is a problem. And no, I am not a “reich winger”.

Hmmmm, that shop or page he is showing has a Pepe The Frog on it which is not a symbol I have ever seen any radfems using so…….sounds like Aidan The Mighty might have fallen for an edge-lord troll page? In fact, some of those pics have the smell of TRA sock-puppets posing as GC feminists to them, just my own humble opinion.

Not to derail but good old PZ Myers has really sunk to a new low with being all sad that Bill Maher has Covid and will likely survive it. Guess ugliness like that is the new Woke thing.

Oh yes, ugliness has been Woke for a long long time.

“Save a Terf— Shoot a Troon”

What the hell is a “troon?”

I’ve been on a lot of GC forums and never encountered it.

Myers is also not looking so great on the Israel thing… I sure as hell think that “standing with Israel” is not an amazing thing but the Left seem to be more or less “standing with fucking Hamas”. Since when did lefties become just as nasty as Trumpies? How much is Trump’s fault and how much of it has always been there?

I am continually mystified by how people think following someone on Twitter has any goddamn significance at all. It’s like they think it does something.

Why do I suspect this guy has no problem with “Die, TERFs” “Kill TERFs” or any of the other nasty, violent things that might lead to someone making a banner suggesting how to save a TERF?

Nullius I think it’s not so much that they think it does something as it is that it’s a Mark, a Taint, a Tell. It’s an excuse to point and hiss and summon the mob.

Sastra @8 I had to look that one up too. Kinda funny though. :D

Please excuse my ignorance – what does the “CW:” at the very top of this mean?

Like most responders here, I separate “following” from endorsing. Sometimes you want to keep up with what someone you disagree with is saying – a sensible and not blameworthy measure.

CW=content warning. In fact, now you mention it, it’s quite funny: it’s Captain Vigilance saying “don’t go thinking I endorse this naughty naughty content” while he’s invigilating what everyone else shares.
