I sort of agree with him, not because “person” is offensive but because I’m not convinced that Trump possesses personhood in the philosophical/moral sense. If an ape demonstrates personhood while a fetus does not, which is Trump mentally closer to?
Yes, Pan, but does he demonstrate manhood? Or is a man really a person deep down, making him less akin to a man than to something else?
He is biologically human (I know this seems questionable, but he has successfully reproduced with human women), anatomically male and physically more developed than a boy, so I’m willing to grant him manhood. Personhood is trickier and Peter Singer or someone similarly qualified will need to make the case for that before I am convinced.
Perhaps we should remember that “person” derives from the Latin “persona”, meaning “actor’s mask” or “character in a play”.
iknklast, re manhood. It depends doesn’t it. What some people call manhood, I tend to think of as being a coarse vulgar ignorant thug. No doubt they would consider me to be an effete elite cuckolded white-knighting SJW. Then again, real SJW’s are likely to consider me to be a right-wing colonial imperialist trans-antagonist etc etc. All depends on the frame of reference.
