At the library

In other misogyny news…the San Francisco public library is hosting an exhibit that includes an “I punch TERFs” Tshirt.

I found the page for the exhibit on the library’s website. Sometime in the last few hours it has added a note:

Note: This exhibit contains strong language, blood and mentions of transmisogyny and police violence. Due to concerns raised by library patrons, we have altered the exhibit to remove a piece of artwork that could be interpreted to promote violence, which is incompatible with our exhibitions policy.

Yeah, “die cis scum” and “I punch TERFs” could indeed be interpreted to promote violence. It’s not a very labored interpretation, if you ask me.

Interesting how it’s “I punch TERFs” and not “I punch transphobes” or “I punch bigots.”

It’s almost like they’re only interested in threatening violence against women.

IMHO it is either someone on the library staff dog-whistling co-thinkers, or it is someone on the library staff dog-whistling co-thinkers.

There was a third explanation of this ‘art’ exhibition that came to mind, but it has escaped me.

Brandi Seals; the 28th trans person murdered in the U.S. in 2017.

Suure it was those darn 2nd wave feminists who must be responsible. This mindless leap of resentment towards the irrelevant target is absolutely typical of contemporary populist movements.

The ‘we’re being killed, so we have a licence to attack anyone we feel like attacking,’ trope isn’t that far from the ‘I can’t ‘get’ sex, so I’ll commit murder’ line.

It’s not just any irrelevant target though. It’s women. It’s always women.
