What could be better than Florida in June?

Oh is that a fact.

White House acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney announced during a White House press briefing that the 2020 G7 summit will be held at Trump National in Doral, Florida, from June 10-12.

That’s corrupt af, it breaks a bunch of laws, plus it’s appallingly bad manners. Florida in June??! Florida in June to put more money in the disgusting “host”‘s pocket?!!

“We used the same set of criteria that previous administrations have used,” Mulvaney said.
He said Doral was “far and away the best physical facility for this meeting.”

What shameless bullshit. If it were the best physical facility for meetings of that kind it would be famous as such. It isn’t.

House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler has previously said the committee would be requesting White House documents scheduling September meetings to investigate the legality of a G7 at Doral.

“Hosting the G7 Summit at Doral implicates both the Foreign and Domestic Emoluments Clauses, because it would entail both foreign and U.S. government spending to benefit the President, the latter potentially including both federal and state expenditures. More importantly, the Doral decision reflects perhaps the first publicly known instance in which foreign governments would be required to pay President Trump’s private businesses in order to conduct business with the United States,” Nadler said.

It just never ends.

Of course it’s best. Donald says so, and he knows things other people don’t know. The fact that those things are not true is no reason to suspect them of being wrong!

Far and away the best physical facility for this meeting that Trump owns.

    Fixed that for them.

It’s even stupider (from NBC News dot com):

The last time the United States hosted the G-7 was in 2012. President Barack Obama held it at Camp David, a government-owned property in Maryland.

“Why do they hold it at Camp David, I mean seriously?” Mulvaney said Thursday, calling that summit a “complete disaster.”

    I mean seriously

It is obvious. Trump must need the money. That means he must be damn near flat broke, So how can the most intelligent genius in the Unverse get to be that way?

The only reason I can think of is the most likely one: he has a habit to support. A big habit. And by that I mean BIG. Big in the most bigly way. Best fix: an infusion of federal funds straight into Trump Inc.

And I’d say that as well he needs help. Bigly help. But problem. No matter how much he has of money and no matter how much help he gets, he will always crave more.

I hope it all arrives soon. Enough will never be enough. Bad word, that word enough. Bad.

Omar, I don’t think it’s necessary for Trump to be broke for him to want to line his own pockets. Rich people just wanta be rich. And rich is never rich enough. No matter how much he has, he always wants more.

It’s possible he needs money, but it’s also possible he just wants more, and wants to make sure everyone else has less. And wants to make sure that people have to pay to get access to him.

My hope is that the rest of the G-7 security details go through that property with a fine tooth comb finding security inadequacies that have to be remedied at taxpayer expense. Trump can compel the US government to say it is the ideal facility, but not any of the other governments.

I think iknklast has it right — there’s never enough money. While Trump may not have been as rich as he liked to pretend, he was certainly rich by any ordinary standard of the word. More than enough to fund even a bad drug habit.

    Also, as Springsteen put it:

Poor man want to be rich

Rich man want to be king

    And a king ain’t satisfied

    Till he rules everything

Trump’s using his position as a BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY. From his perspective, he’d be stupid not to. Stupid about everything else (including the actual illegality of what he’s doing), but whatever.

    It’s a winter resort, isn’t it?

Yes, it is most definitely a winter resort.

It’s also one of those places that stand out in US history as the site of massive con jobs. Hucksters promoted Florida like crazy in I think the 1920s and created a boom, which bankrupted a whole lot of people because the promotion involved a lot of lying.

Being a winter resort is sort of the point, though, right? I mean, as a winter resort, it tends to be empty in the summer. So the G7 fills it at a time when it is empty, the owner makes money at a time he normally wouldn’t make so much money, it’s good business. Right? When the owner happens to be POTUS, and the meeting happens to be a meeting of an international group that might have reasons to want to curry favor with POTUS, well…it’s still good business in some ways, but damned corrupt.

It’s the point from his point of view, of course, but from the point of view of what’s the best place to do it taking into account security, logistics, cost, the comfort of the heads of state and the people who accompany them, and the like, Florida in June is a sadistic and therefore insulting choice. Doral is unpopular in June because Florida SUCKS in June, which to a normal person would make it a “no way” for a global meeting.
