To be legally seen as their true

A petition to Parliament:

Make non-binary a legally recognised gender identity in the UK

Have non binary be included as an option under the GRP (Gender Recognition Panel)/ GRC (Gender Recognition Certificate), in order to allow those identifying as non binary to be legally seen as their true gender identity. As well as having ‘Non-binary’ be seen as a valid transgender identity.

What does it mean to be “legally seen as”? What does the government have to do with how people are “seen” or what people are “seen as”? What is the point of petitioning the government to make it possible for you to be “seen as” some meaningless category?

Why not just simplify this whole thing and petition the government to make it that everybody pays ALL ATTENTION to me me me me me me me all the time from here on out? The me me me me me of course is generic and universal: everybody would be paying all attention to all the me me me me mes under this arrangement. That way all the ravenous egos would be satisfied at last and we could go back to normal life. Except for the part about having to pay all our attention to everyone all the time.

There is no option of ‘Non-binary’ on legal forms, ignoring members of the population. This requires the government to pass a law that publicly recognises ‘Non-binary’ as a part of the GRP under the Gender Recognition Act, a.k.a a legal and valid gender identity option. By recognising Non-binary as a valid gender identity, it would aid in the protection of Non-binary individuals against transphobic hate crimes, and would ease Gender Dysphoria experienced by Non-binary people.

Are “non-binary” people especially subject to hate crimes? Does anyone even notice, or care? And how do “non-binary” people manage to experience Gender Dysphoria (which apparently gets capital letters now, to look more official)?

Can self-obsession get any more baroque and absurd?

Even if I wanted to discriminate against NBs, how can I discern them from the general population? I can easily identify either groups I may wish to discriminate against, such as blacks, women, Asians, etc. by their visible traits.

But I don’t know you are NB unless you tell me. So how about shutting the fuck up about your narcism because no one else cares.

Only when they go around forcing everyone to refer to their special selves as “they/them”. People stand around having a conversation at a party.

    Person A: And then I told her…

NB Person: Excuse me, that would be THEY!

    Person A: What?

NB Person: My pronouns are THEY/THEM!

Person B: Who the fuck are you?

NB Person: I am non-binary, and you are doing REAL VIOLENCE by referring to me by an improper pronoun.

    Person A: Umm, I think you may…

NB Person: Misgendering is a hate crime!

    Person A: I wasn’t talking to you.

NB Person: You must use correct language, and not commit micro-aggressions against me! Micro-aggressions are bad, and they are the baddest when committed against the Trans/NB community. We are the most oppressed minority ever!

Person B: Excuse me? As a woman of color, I might have a different opinion on that.

NB Person: Are you a TERF? You are really white, aren’t you? You know whiteness isn’t about skin color, right? You’re probably a Karen.

    Person B: WTF?

Person A: Look, could you please go away?

NB Person: You need to educate yourself.

Person A: I WASN’T EVEN TALKING ABOUT YOU! I WAS TALKING ABOUT MY SISTER!

NB Person: You should be centering me. Do you want me to commit suicide?

    Person B: Please!

Define “non-binary” then. Can’t enforce a law about it unless it’s defined.

Those official forms are going to get really long really fast.

So which women’s prisons are we to house non-binary inmates in?

Any sort of “official” recognition gives them another cudgel with which to bludgeon people. Enbies are also probably beginning to feel a bit left out of all the institutional capture action, or tired of just being the after thought in the boilerplate mantra “TWAW, TMAM, non-binary identities are valid (whateverthefuck that means).”

Just one ‘enbie’ box to tick? Why not one each for ‘male-presenting enbie,’ ‘female-presenting enbie,’ ‘neutral-presenting enbie,’ ‘third-gender-presenting enbie, ‘gender-yet-to-be-discovered-presenting enbie’……the potential list is endless.

    Enby-male male-presenting enby, enby-female male-presenting enby, enby-male male-presenting male enby…

…this could go one for some time.

Well, there’s NB egg sausage and NB, that’s not got much NB in it.

Non binary is absurd as it gets. If there is a binary, then the the only choice is one or the other. There is no way to be neither if you acknowledge there are only two, hence the term BINARY. Stupid shits.

There’s nothing “true” about made-up ideas in someone’s head. “Being seen as their *true* gender identitly”? Nope. Not true.

While we’re on the subject of petitions, might I mention two whose aims readers of this blog may support?

First this one, which anyone can sign. It has an illustrious list of sponsors:

    https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/dear-stonewall-please-reconsider-your-approach

Secondly this, which is open only to those registered to vote in the UK, about safeguarding evidence-based therapy for children struggling with gender dysphoria:

    https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/582083

It has now reached its initial target of 10,000 signatures, but obviously any additional names are welcome.

What I have a problem with is not so much the “non-binary” part as the assumption that everyone else is “binary”. Remember, they are not talking about biological sex. In Genderspeak the “binary” people are either (“trans” or “cis”) “men” or (“trans” or “cis”) “women”, both defined in terms of ways of thinking and feeling best left unspecified. Anyone who fails to think or feel in the ways required does not qualify as either “man” or “woman”, so those would be the “non-binaries” (further sub-categorized by the alphabet soup at the end of LGBT). By that standard I don’t know of any “binaries” apart from TIMs and TIFs. It’s as if someone came up with a name for “neither Mormon nor Sikh” and started applying it uniquely to themselves while implicitly assuming that everyone who didn’t explicitly adopt the name tacitly endorsed either Mormonism or Sikhism.

There should definitely be exactly two enby boxes, just to fuck with them.

Would make a nice title for something: Two Boxes for the Enbies.

There are also people who claim to be “trans non-binary”. Exactly what this means is unclear. Nothing in this ideology is coherent.

People who were wrongly assigned binary at birth? Interestingly, this also opens up the possibility of “trans binaries”: Those who were wrongly assigned as non-binary.

  19. Bjarte Foshaug Avatar
    Bjarte Foshaug

(Or perhaps “transbinaries” to distinguish them from those who were simply assigned the wrong binary gender..)

  20. Sackbut Avatar

My inclination is to assume “trans non-binary” just has to do with demands. Trans = “give me all the medical interventions”; non-binary = “refer to me as ‘they/them’, don’t you dare call me a man or a woman”. Any inquiries or requests for clarification are to be met with fury and denunciation and accusations of transphobia.

    Ha! Perfect!

I wish these pronoun enthusiasts would look at languages other than English sometimes. There have been some really great posts here on that topic by the resident linguists, shout-out to them.

Bjarte @14 They may not be talking about biological sex, but that is exactly what the binary refers to. They are not saying non-gender, or maybe they are as in ‘genderqueer’ or some other indefinable absurdity, but at the bottom, there is a binary, it refers to biological sex, and there is no way to say there are more than two sexes, (gender, whatever) and still have it be a binary. If, as they claim, that gender is a spectrum (which is absolute horseshit in my opinion too), then it is neither binary or non-binary. It’s like saying computer binary has characters other than 1’s and 0’s, it’s simply absurd.
